Junior High Reading Junior High ReadingThree key elements of the Junior High Reading curriculum are: 1. regular practice with text complexity; 2) reading and writing grounded in evidence from text; 3) building higher order critical thinking skills through content-rich informational (non-fiction) text.Class consists of: 1) whole class novels; 2) lesson units and skill-building; and 3) independent reading with corresponding projects.Look for reading assignments nightly, as well as corresponding questions and activities that require evidence based on the text.Students should be reading 30 minutes nightly – this could be assigned reading, independent reading or reading a textbook as part of the comprehensive Junior High curriculum.Students must have independent reading materials with them in every class throughout the day. Friday study halls will be an opportunity for the entire Junior High to read independently as time and scheduling allow.

service each semester. Service hours should be spread out over the following areas:

Church, community, family, school. A maximum of 7 hours per semester done for the immediate

family will receive credit. Students are required to log their service hours on service log

sheets and have them signed by an adult (activity moderator or parent).

Service hours will be collected on December 13 and May 9. Students who earn more than 20 service hours for the first

semester will have their extra hours carried over to the second semester.

Complete information on the service program is available on Miss Tedeschi’s web page.
