2. there are 3 zones in the ocean Sunlit zone: receives the most light; the smallest zone; supports 90% of ocean life; coral lives here Twilight zone: less light is filtered here; crabs, viper fish, and swordfish live here Midnight zone: no light can penetrate here; food is hard to find; animals here are blind or have very large eyes 3. at the beginning of the summer we made a KWL chart: we used this chart to guide what animals we would learn about throughout the summer. 4. Here is what we have learned: 5. Sharks by Hayden They have gills. Bull sharks stick out their noses to eat. Sharks like to eat sea lions. 6. Electric Eels by Thomas They are electric. They are big. They can hurt a shark by stinging them. 7. Octopus by Jalon It can spread ink to protect itself. He can change colors. It has 8 legs. 8. Seahorses by Maddy They hide in coral. They can be yellow. They can be pink. 9. Dolphins by Lexie They can jump super high. Dolphins like to eat fish. Dolphins are fast swimmers. People can ride dolphins. 10. Sharks by Matt They can eat whales and dolphins and fish. They can swim very fast. Mama sharks may eat their babies. 11. Sea Turtle by Keyanna They swim. They lay eggs. Their babies are little. 12. Octopus by Isaiah When sharks come, they spray ink. They have sticky things (suckers). They can grab stuff with their tentacles. 13. Hammerhead Sharks by Caroline They can eat their own babies. Their noses are the biggest. They eat a lot predators. 14. Sea Turtles by Joanna They like to swim in the water. Babies are born from eggs. Their nests are in the sand. 15. Dolphin by Abby They like to swim. People like to ride on them. They like to do tricks. 16. And here is our KWL chart now! 17. We also took several field trips that coincided with our study. We also used our new geography program, StrataLogica maps, globes, atlases, and charts come alive in an environment where teachers and students can actively engage with our multi- layered world and easily share content and collaborate in ways never before imagined Completely web-based and powered by the Google Earth It was especially used when we learned about the 5 oceans and where each sea creature lived 20. We learned the 5 oceans! 21. The students also had the opportunity to write their own books about the ocean. 22. I have enjoyed each and every day spent with these awesome kids!
