TRANSCRIPT
The Waterhouse Bar & Terrace has taken its name from the hotel’s very own architect-the famous Victorian, Alfred Waterhouse.
Alfred Waterhouse was born in Liverpool in 1830 to a Quaker family.
His architectural style was, for the era, unique. He was renowned for spiral rooftops and favoured redstone and terracotta rather than the then classic Victorian whitewashed rendered buildings seen around Brighton today.
The Manchester City Town Hall and Strangeways prison are just two of his unique works. Queen Victoria worked closely with Alfred on the plans for
his design of the iconic Natural History Museum in London.
Waterhouse designed the Metropole Hotel and doors first opened in 1890 with local guests as well as those arriving by special luxury trains from
London Victoria, heralded in by our very own band. The hotel when opened had a Turkish bath, perfumery and later, a hotel cinema and casino; many of these original opening scenes are located around the hotel public areas today.
The Waterhouse Bar & Terrace opened its doors May 2012. We aim to ensure this stunning destination bar offers you the very best in hospitality
and style combined with a great dining and drinking experience. Enjoy delights from perfect pairings, chilled Champagne, the very best gins
and whiskies in town, delicious cuisine and three tier cream teas, all offered daily.
