Welcome to a number of new students and welcome to Miss Christina Koots who has joined us as an Educational Assistant in the Kindergarten classroom. The grade 6 class has moved to Campus 2 where they operate like a middle or junior high school class. Their eagerness and enthusiasm is rubbing off on everyone at Campus 2. Alberta Education has provided the opportunity for high schools in the province to change the way we do business through the High School Flexibility project. At TroVal we have a number of components. All high school students now have a Teacher Advisor who will coach them through their high school journey starting in gr 9 through graduation. All students gr 6 through 12 were drafted by teachers to a spirit team. Team Time is every day for just under half an hour. Activities will include advisory time for high school students, team building for each team, study time for doing homework, one on one or small group to teacher time in a specific subject as needed as well as the construction of an electronic portfolio for all students. High school students will earn credits for their portfolio as well as leadership credits for the time with their team. The school is buzzing with anticipation for this time each day. Enrollment numbers are down slightly at TroVal but programs remain unchanged. In fact, we are offering live taught courses in Science 14 and 24 as well as Math 31 which we have not had for a number of years. Staff has chosen to make a concerted effort to focus more on students and their success in everything we do this year. Ms. Chantalle Boese has taken on the position of Athletic Director and reports a full slate of volleyball teams with most coaches in place. Two mobile volleyball courts are in place in the arena. Thank you to Friends of TroVal for helping to make this happen. On the modernization front, steel is up for the two major additions - the gym out front and the two levels of classrooms out back. Don Hartman, Facilities Director for Golden Hills School Division reports we are on track for our September 2014 opening. Please contact any of us at the school if you have any questions or concerns and we will do our best to work things out. Have a great September! Mrs. Debbie Barkman Principal

teach a variety of subjects and courses throughout the year.

Crosswalk Safety—Campus 1

Please assist the school in promoting and encouraging students to cross streets

carefully. Outside Campus 1 there are two crosswalks. If you are picking up your child and

need to cross the street please use these crosswalks to assist with safe street crossing.

Students sometimes get excited, are in a hurry and dash out between parked vehicles. We

would like everyone to use the crosswalks.

Let’s all encourage the 3 P’s of safe street crossing— point, pause, and proceed and promote

street safety.

Morning Arrival -

Busses are to be arriving at the school at 8:30 am and town students should arrive at school

at this time also so as to ensure that all students arrive safely and are supervised.

Afternoon Dismissal-

The students will be dismissed at 3:25. The Bus students will load their bus on the

east side of the playground and town students will be directed to the front of the

building. If you are picking up your child(ren) we ask that you wait outside the front doors as

this is a very congested time of day in our buildings.

***** NOTICE: ***** We have students in our

school with severe nut allergies.

We encourage all parents and students to

avoid bringing nut products into the school

or to school events. Thank You for your

cooperation!

parent or guardian. The school office opens at 8:00 am, students begin

Library News Welcome back everyone - hope you had a great summer.

The library is up and running for everyone’s enjoyment!

Classes have begun checking out books and the kids were

very excited to get their first books of the year!

This year, in Gr. 6 – 12, we are teaming up with the

Trochu Public Library to access digital books. Perhaps

you have noticed a $5.00 fee for the Library on the fee

form. This is a membership to access the Marigold digital

library. The students will receive a library card and

password. They will be able to download digital books to

their devices (I Pads, I Pods, laptops, etc). We hope this

will give the students more variety in their library books at

the higher grades. We will continue to grow our library

collection, but we hope this will enhance it! Also, we have

3 Kobo’s that students may check out if they do not have a

digital device that they can download to.

If your family already has a subscription to the Marigold

system, you will not need to pay this fee. We hope this

will be a good partnership between the town and the

school.

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance

For your convenience, we have made arrangements for families to voluntarily purchase student accident

insurance through the Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Insurance

and Financial Services Inc.

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance offers protection against the unexpected costs of injury from accidents, and is

especially valuable for families who:

do not have medical or dental plans,

have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or

have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities.

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance has a selection of plans to suit most budgets. Benefits include coverage for:

The full school year (September to September), 24 hours a day, whether at school or at home;

Expenses that are often limited or not covered by private or group insurance plans, or Provincial Health

Insurance Plans - such as ambulance, physiotherapy, private tutoring, counselling, and much more;

Injury-related dental treatment (including future dental treatment up to age 26);

Out-of-province or country emergency medical expenses.

If your address changes during the school year, your Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance plan is transferable from

school to school, anywhere in Canada.

Insurance premiums are $13.50 and $31.95 per year, depending on the plan selected, and your child is covered

all the time, not just while at school. A discounted premium is available for families with 3 or more children.

For more information or to apply online, please visit www.kidsplus.ca, or speak with a Kids Plus™ Client

Service Administrator at 1-800-556-7411.

** Forms are also available on the Trochu Valley School Website.
