Faith is very important in our Catholic Tradition. we learn a lot of doctrines about faith. We have so many commandments and regulations that will guide our faith life. Mostly we have many devotions and practices that are expressions of our faith. We have the Creed that is the encapsulation of all that we believe in which we recite at every solemn celebration of the Holy Mass. In general we see an all-enveloping impact of faith in our religious life. Then the question is why do Catholics walk away from their faith life or turn against it and embrace secular ideologies and philosophies that are in diametric opposition with what we believe in. It is very important to consider whether this faith has become an integral part of the very person that I am or is it only an external “show” which has no personal investment. Show changes based on the stage and the audience and many such amorphous factors. If faith is deeply integrated into our very person, we will not walk away easily. Passion usually overrides reason, even in faith. Our faith must generate a passion for the Lord. When people walked away from Jesus, Disciples stuck with Him not because they understood or believed all that He was teaching, but they really loved Him. It is frequently observed that Catholics teach their children a lot of doctrines and prayers which they learn as routine exercise. Many a time this education fails to generate a personal intimacy with Jesus. It should have been the major goal of all religious education. If this generation of young adults question our faith and religious practices, it reveals the absence of a passion for Jesus. Adults are no exception either. How do we develop this intimacy with Jesus? We see every day good and devout people visiting the Lord in the Holy Eucharist in the churches and praying for a long while most of the time. We all believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Instead of considering this faith as a cognitive factor of our faith, we have to move it into our emotional level. We can feel with the Lord while gazing at the Tabernacle where He is present. The more time we spend in His presence like that the more we feel Him in our hearts. Doing this frequently we find it as a great relief from all our stresses in real life. Another way of such experience is during the Holy Communion. Approach the Lord with an emotional longing for Him while going for Holy Communion. After receiving Him spend time with Him alone in silence or in dialoguing with Him in silence. Feel His presence and be filled with His love. The more we do so the more we want to do it. Intensify our attachment to Jesus. His Real Presence and our Real Communion can be continued all the day. If we practice this and help our children practice it as well, their faith will become integrated. They will not walk away from Jesus. God bless you all.

From the Pastor’s Desk / Del Escritorio del Padre La fe es muy importante en nuestra tradición católica. aprendemos muchas doctrinas sobre la fe. Tenemos tantos mandamientos y regulaciones que guiarán nuestra vida de fe. Principalmente tenemos muchas devociones y prácticas que son expresiones de nuestra fe. Tenemos el Credo que es la encapsulación de todo lo que creemos en lo que recitamos en cada celebración solemne de la Santa Misa. En general, vemos un impacto envolvente de la fe en nuestra vida religiosa. Entonces la pregunta es por qué los católicos se alejan de su vida de fe o se vuelven en su contra y adoptan ideologías y filosofías seculares que están en oposición diametral con lo que creemos. Es muy importante considerar si esta fe se ha convertido en una parte integral de la fe. Soy la persona que soy o es solo un "espectáculo" externo que no tiene inversión personal. Muestra los cambios basados en el escenario y la audiencia y muchos de esos factores amorfos. Si la fe está profundamente integrada en nuestra persona, no nos alejaremos fácilmente. La pasión generalmente anula la razón, incluso en la fe. Nuestra fe debe generar una pasión por el Señor. Cuando la gente se alejó de Jesús, los discípulos se quedaron con Él no porque entendieran o creyeran todo lo que estaba enseñando, sino que realmente lo amaban. Con frecuencia se observa que los católicos enseñan a sus hijos muchas doctrinas y oraciones que aprenden como ejercicio de rutina. Muchas veces esta educación no puede generar una intimidad personal con Jesús. Debería haber sido el objetivo principal de toda educación religiosa. Si esta generación de jóvenes adultos cuestiona nuestra fe y nuestras prácticas religiosas, revela la ausencia de una pasión por Jesús. Los adultos tampoco son una excepción. ¿Cómo desarrollamos esta intimidad con Jesús? Vemos todos los días a personas buenas y devotas que visitan al Señor en la Sagrada Eucaristía en las iglesias y oran durante mucho tiempo la mayor parte del tiempo. Todos creemos en la presencia real de Jesús en la Sagrada Eucaristía. En lugar de considerar esta fe como un factor cognitivo de nuestra fe, tenemos que moverla a nuestro nivel emocional. Podemos sentirnos con el Señor mientras contemplamos el Tabernáculo donde está presente. Cuanto más tiempo pasamos en Su presencia de esa manera, más lo sentimos en nuestros corazones. Al hacer esto con frecuencia, lo encontramos como un gran alivio de todas nuestras tensiones en la vida real. Otra forma de tal experiencia es durante la Sagrada Comunión. Acércate al Señor con un anhelo emocional por Él mientras vas a la Sagrada Comunión. Después de recibirlo, pasa tiempo con Él solo en silencio o dialogando con Él en silencio. Siente su presencia y se llena de su amor. Cuanto más lo hacemos, más queremos hacerlo. Intensifica nuestro apego a Jesús. Su presencia real y nuestra comunión real pueden continuar todo el día. Si practicamos esto y ayudamos a nuestros hijos a practicarlo también, su fe se integrará. No se alejarán de Jesús. Dios los bendiga a todos.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Muy popular entre los latinos es la monjita francesa santa Teresita, con sus rosas y crucifijo en mano. No cabe duda que ella fue una gran mujer, pero no podemos olvidar otra monja carmelita, la Teresota, o sea santa Teresa de Jesús (de Ávila).

En 1970, esta hispana fue la primera mujer nombrada Doctora de la Iglesia gracias a sus profundos escritos. Teresa vivió en el siglo XVI, una época de mucha reforma. Después de haber pasado varios años como religiosa, se dio cuenta que su vida personal necesitaba conversión. Así fue que se puso a orar y practicar el recogimiento del alma. Ella confiesa que pasarían casi 15 años antes de que estas prácticas dieran fruto. Ella no se dejó vencer durante esos quince años y siguió insistiendo en la oración hasta que Dios le concedió visiones y visitas celestiales. Su mística llena de gozos celestials nunca la separó de la tierra. Ella no se escondía en la oración, mas bien salía de la oración para luchar en el mundo. Ella inspiró la reforma carmelitana y sigue inspirándonos hoy con sus escritos.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Christian liturgy has always contained an opportunity to make a choice for sharing. From the beginning, Christians pooled their resources, especially for the care of widows and orphans, at the weekly Eucharist. Over the years, the collection became detached from the liturgy and baskets or plates would be passed through the community while the Mass was going on at the altar, or contributions would be collected at the doors. In Milan’s Ambrosian Rite, these gifts have always been brought to the altar by lay people in procession. In German countries, the ancient custom was for the entire assembly to process with their gifts—first the men, then the women, then the priests and deacons—to offer their gifts at the altar. The old ceremony of canonization included a curious vestige of this procession: people would present the pope with two loaves of bread, two barrels of wine and water, five candles, and three cages containing pigeons or turtledoves!

HEALING AND SALVATION

The readings today speak of healing and salvation. In Second Kings, Naaman, a commander of the army of the king of Syria, develops leprosy. He goes to a stranger, a prophet from Israel, when no one else can cure his disease. Much to his surprise, after a simple bath in the river, he is cured. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus cures ten lepers and sends them to the priest. Only one, a Samaritan, returns to thank Jesus for his cure and only he hears the words, “Your faith has saved you.” The psalm and Timothy remind us that salvation involves justice, kindness, and faithfulness and forever links us with Jesus. SANACIÓN Y SALVACIÓN Las lecturas de hoy hablan de sanación y salvación. En el segundo libro de los Reyes, Naamán, un comandante del ejército del rey de Siria, se enferma de lepra. Él va con un extranjero, un profeta de Israel cuando nadie más puede curar su enfermedad. Para su sorpresa, después de un simple baño en el río, él sanó. En el Evangelio de Lucas, Jesús sana a diez leprosos y los envía con el sacerdote. Federal Privacy Law prohibits the hospital from giving room numbers, so we must have prior knowledge of a pa-tient’s room number before we visit the hospital.
