MUSIC NOTES -Autumn Toussaint, Director of Contemporary Music

“The tree in my dream was very large, its roots reached for miles, and under its gigantic canopy everyone was safe, healed, and had peace. “ Thus began the songwriting process for Krissy Nordhoff, composer of our anthem today. The overall picture of linking the tree to Calvary, and the haunting lyrics of Mercy Tree came to her through a dream one Easter evening after the day’s celebrations had ended. My hope for all of us this Easter morning is that we take a walk. His final walk. From Jericho to Jerusalem. From the temple to the garden. From the garden to the trial. From Pilate He walked painfully to the Mercy Tree called the Cross of Calvary. And 3 days later, He walked powerfully out of the vacated tomb! As you think about His walk, reflect on your own. All of us have our own walk to Jerusalem down the narrow path of rejection, confusion, and pain in life, but may we be reminded that Jesus died to give us a path of freedom. Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! Alleluia, Amen.

On a hill called Calvary, stands an endless mercy tree.Every broken weary soul, find your rest and be made whole.

Hope went dark that violent day, the whole earth quaked at love’s display. Three days silent in the ground, the body born for heaven’s crown.

On that bright and glorious day when heaven opened up the grave. He’s alive and risen indeed, oh praise Him for the mercy tree!
