Welcome toWessex House
Wessex House offers a welcoming environment, with comfortable surroundings. The nursing home is purpose-built with comfortable, spacious rooms that are light and airy. The bedrooms are furnished to a high standard, though residents are welcome to personalise these with some of their own furniture and ornaments. All bedrooms are fitted with a nurse call system and benefit from en-suite facilities.
Accommodation consists of single rooms, although we may be able to arrange shared room accommodation if required. Lift access is available to all parts of the home. Shared facilities are warm and welcoming, and designed for the use of residents and their guests. These include the communal seating areas, comfortable lounges, well-appointed dining areas, garden space, balcony and views.
I would like to welcome you to Wessex House. I hope this pack answers many of your questions, and I would be delighted to welcome you to visit us to find out more. Staff and residents relocated from the previous Wessex House in May 2014. Our new home, built especially for the benefit of our residents, is just minutes away from our old site in Somerton with fantastic new facilities. Hilary Robinson

What do people say about Wessex House?
This month my mother died after being in Wessex House for over seven years. She had Alzheimer’s which became progressively more acute, but during this time my mother was treated with the utmost care and dignity and despite virtually bed ridden for her last three years. She died without a single bedsore, which is testimonial to the devotion the staff displayed to her care both day and night. My mother was completely helpless but her every need was supplied.- Resident’s dughter

A warm welcome to SomertonWessex House is located in the ancient and picturesque town of Somerton.
A bit of historySomerton is a small town and civil parish in the South Somerset district of Somerset. It gave its name to the county of Somerset, and was briefly, around the start of the 14th century, the county town, and around 900 AD was the capital of Wessex.
The history of Somerton dates back to the Anglo-Saxon era, when it was an important political and commercial centre. Situated on the River Cary, approximately 9 miles north-west of Yeovil, the town has its own parish council serving the population of just under 5,000.
A local legend has it that Ine, a Wessex king, was originally a farmer in Somerton. After the Norman conquest of England, the importance of the town declined despite being the former county town.
Somerton then became a market town in the Middle Ages, whose economy was supported by a transport system using the River Parrett, and later rail transport via the Great Western Railway, and by light industries including glove making and gypsum mining. There has been a weekly market since the Middle Ages, and the main square with its market cross is today an attractive location for visitors.
