It is my pleasure to introduce you to our company. My family has been building ships since

1927 when my grandfather and uncle opened our first shipyard in the Netherlands. Back then,

we worked closely with local clients to deliver them exactly the sort of vessels they needed.

Listening carefully to what our customers had to tell us was precisely how my father came up

with the standardised shipbuilding concept for which Damen is so well known.

Some things never change.

Today, we still feel it is important for us to be close to our customers wherever they are, which

is why we operate over 30 ship and repair yards, as well as Service Hubs, all over the world.

And, just as we started out all those years ago with an eye on the future, we are still looking

forwards today, aiming to help our clients – and theirs – to get the very best possible cruise

experience from Damen vessels.

INNOVATION

Damen has developed extensive R&D programmes leading to multiple ground-breaking

innovations. We take an ambidextrous approach; our development activities are

focused on the evolution of our portfolio in support of our market-dedicated product

groups, whilst our research is channeled into the solutions of tomorrow.

Much of this work directly benefits the cruise industry, for example, our Air Lubrication

Project. This aims to deliver a significant reduction in resistance to large vessels in the

water, with a consequent lowering of both fuel consumption and emissions.

BUILDING THE FUTURE

The world’s first Class approved 3D printed propeller - the result of a collaboration

between RAMLAB, Promarin, Autodesk, Bureau Veritas and Damen.

Included in this is leading superyacht builder Amels, which produces luxury yachts from its Limited Edition range as well as Full Custom builds.

Also part of the Damen Shipyards Group is KNUD E. HANSEN, the Denmark-based designer responsible for some of the largest cruise ships ever built.

We also enjoy an excellent relationship with Expedition Voyage Consultants, the only independent full service expedition consultancy in the cruise industry.

Whether for superyacht clients or cruise vessel customers, we understand that

creating memories to cherish for a lifetime starts in the quality of our engineering and

construction. Part of Damen Shipyards Group since 1991, our luxury yacht builder

Amels has delivered more than 60 high-end superyachts up to 83 metres and 3,000

gross tonnes. We have a deep understanding of the luxury experience at the highest

level, managing highly complex projects and supply chains.

KNUD E. HANSEN designs everything that floats except for atomic submarines, but the soul of the company is in passenger vessels and at the very heart of this lies cruise ships.

Part of the Damen Shipyards Group since 2012, KNUD E. HANSEN has a long history

of world-leading cruise ship design. KNUD E. HANSEN is active in all sectors of the

maritime industry, but is most known for its newbuild and refit designs of passenger

and cruise vessels.

Amongst the innovative designs produced by the company is the Phoenix – World City. The design project unveiled many features that would redefine the cruise industry towards the end of the 20th century.

EVC / EYOS THE SPIRIT OF EXPLORATION

Damen’s unique approach to expedition cruising includes a partnership with leading

expedition consultant Expedition Voyage Consultants (EVC) and sister company

EYOS Expeditions. The partnership has been an integral part of the development of

the Damen Expedition Cruise Vessel, as well as the successful adventure yacht the

SeaXplorer.

EVC provides its clients – amongst whom are cruise line executives, investors and

operators – with expert advice on planning and operating for all aspects of an

expedition.

Damen reached out to us, giving their clients access to over 1,000 expeditions to destinations as varied as Antarctica and Papua New Guinea. This sets apart the product and shows the value Damen places on delivering practical solutions that truly differentiate their offer.

Damen has developed, tested and delivered several vessels with diesel-electric propulsion systems, which effectively reduce fuel consumption, emissions and noise levels. Fully electric propulsion (in combination with remote charger stations) is the logical next step and an interesting option for nearshore operations.
