The curriculum based on the UK, relevant to our students. Emphasis on speaking and listening, writing and grammar. Practical work – drama, entry & exit points. More ICT related work – laptops, flip cameras, blogging, iPads. Cross curricular links – IPC, International Fair, etc.

Spellings usually on Friday, often topic related

Spellings – write into sentences (research meaning)

Children need to know the meanings not just the spellings, discuss with them - this is the most important part.

Very useful for children to have own dictionary and thesaurus at home (online available, English spellings).

Read everyday, record features of what they have read - WOW words, ideas, etc.

Reading homework = bookmark credits

Vary opportunities for children to read on their own and with an adult, this can be a book in their home language.

Need to discuss reading with adult to improve comprehension skills, discussion can be in home / mother language.

Library books can be changed at break time.

Homework to be given out each day.Mon & Wed – Maths & Reading Tues & Thurs – Science / IPC, English & Reading Fri – Spellings, completing work / research & ReadingThese pieces of homework should be returned, to a high

standard, on the date stated by the class teacher.Occasionally extra homework – finishing, preparing.Children should be doing their own homework, but with

parental assistance to ensure completion and quality.The children should not be copying the words of a parent or

tutor or the Internet!School work must take priority over tutors or external

lessons.

Please check the homework diary everyday and sign at the end of each week. If you have any comments there is a section at the back of the diary to do this.

Children must have their P.E. kit every Wednesday, also full uniform to change into, including shoes!

If your child does extra sports they must have their P.E. kit, including sports shoes, at the correct time – organisation / use of H/W Diary.

Swimming kits must be brought on Tuesday (6X) and Thursday (6T) depending upon PE / Swimming rota.

In school, no doctors note = swim!

Please call the school office to let us know if your child is off for any reason.

It is imperative that your child gets to school before 7:55am.

If they have Vietnamese before school they must be here for 7:30am.

Expectations of independence and becoming responsible for own learning: packing and carrying own bags to sitting down to homework without being told.

House points/smiley faces and golden time

No jewellery, nail varnish, make up, etc.

Very important that the children develop independence this year.

Homework diaries closely match those in AP2 Year 7.

Children will have transition days / activities prior to AP2.

Parents to encourage independence.

• Numerous opportunities to mix with AP1 children throughout the year, including the compulsory residential trip towards the end of the academic year.

• Malaysia Trip – May 2017 (22nd – 26th May)

• Passport (7 months validity).

• Cost 2016- intially charged at 19,000,000 VND (refund of some as

there were no unforeseen circumstances or emergencies to cover.)

• Cost for 2017 still being priced, letter home soon, meeting 5th October Rm302

question, use the homework diary to make an appointment, email or ask in the office.

The class teacher will use the homework diary to convey messages about a child, parents can do the same.

Please check the homework diary everyday and sign each week, and sign to show you have read any messages.

Send reminders to parents regarding items required in school.

Organise parent volunteers for special events.

Act as a resource by answering questions for parents new to the school.

Attend Parent Group meetings and assisting the Parent Group (PG)

Build a sense of community between parents.

Organise class gifts/parties etc.

The role can be shared between 2 parents!
