1. OVERVIEW

1. OVERVIEW Local Coastal Program (LCP) A certified LCP will create greater transparency & predictability in

coastal development and coastal permit procedures

WHY: The Coastal Act requires that coastal communities prepare a Local Coastal Program (LCP) in order to establish the kind, location, and intensity of land and water uses appropriate to its portion of the coastal zone.

HOW: A multi-year effort to prepare, adopt, and certify the Venice Local Coastal Program as the coastal planning tool for the area.

WHAT: Local Coastal Programs (LCPs) implement the statewide goals and policies of the Coastal Act at the local level to preserve and enhance public access to the beach and identify resources that need protection.

WHO: The California Coastal Commission certifies Local Coastal Programs (LCP) and administers them in partnership with coastal communities

CONTEXT Rules that vary by a common geography ie: Coastal Zone.

Parking, lighting, encroachments, adjacency standards, access + circulation, Outdoor amenity space.

Building Placement metrics guide the width of setbacks which create a buffer area from adjacent buildings and roads. Setbacks provide a safety zone and can improve aesthetics through landscaping or screening.
