Welding is a career path that is needed for the
state of Indiana. Every year, welding posi-
tions go unfilled by our current labor force.
This employment gap is projected to grow
during the next decade according to the bu-
reau of labor statistics (www.bls.org).
Areas of study include electric welding and
flame and plasma cutting. Instructional activ-
ities emphasize properties of metals, safety
issues, blue print reading, electrical princi-
ples, welding symbols, and mechanical draw-
ing through projects and exercises that teach
students how to weld industrial metals in four
basic welding positions.
Blue River Career Programs Welding
Technology courses each year have steady
enrollments. The program has developed and
a new section of welding booths, welders, and
a hood which was added to the BRCP lab in
2011.
