The lesson to be learned from the peacock is that you are wearing your colours whether you are showing them off or not. You don’t need to be showing off in order to be seen in your true beauty. Be yourself, and know that you are glorious just as you are.

Dear friends,

Cancer is a universally difficult journey and can feel like an assault on your body and your spirit. The key to healing, regardless of how bad you may be feeling, is to take consistent action. It’s not about

taking huge steps and making sweeping changes, it’s about little steps done over and over again. It’s about never giving up and being an inspiration to ourselves and to others around us.

As motivational guru Tony Robbins says, “Ordinary efforts consistently applied yield extraordinary results.”

Regular exercise such as yoga, healthy eating, a positive outlook and a gentle meditation practice can help reverse many of the pathological processes that can culminate in cancer – when applied consistently over time.

This issue of Wellness News is about staying on track, believing in yourself and your innate ability to heal, finding inspiration within and in the world around you...

The world unconditionally shares its beauty and its resources to inspire and nurture all those who live upon it. Let us apply this generosity and wisdom in our own lives and relationships with others.

I have selected an image of a peacock for this month’s cover as the peacock is a bird renowned for its vibrant, colourful, effortless beauty and reminds us that the natural world is beautiful and amazing. ✦

Love and peace, Mandy

Here is a quick quiz that will help you see how healthy your lifestyle really is! The statements below are about practices that directly boost your health and wellbeing. Circle the ones that you are already doing, and give yourself one point for every point you answer yes to. 1. I exercise for one hour every day. (Give yourself

two points if you have a personal trainer)

2. I restrict my coffee intake to one cup a day

3. I eat three pieces of fruit per day. (Give yourself two points if they are organic)

4. I enjoy five serves of vegetables every day. (Two points for you if they are organic)

5. I eat seafood at least four times a week.

6. I eat legumes in some form almost every day. (Legumes are beans like baked beans, chick peas, lentils etc)

7. I moderate my alcohol intake to an average of one glass a day, and in small quantities at a time.

8. My holidays are planned so that I can take regular time out away from my usual routine.

9. I meditate, do tai chi, or undertake some form of spiritual exercise every day.

10. I visit my health practitioner regularly to keep my health in peak condition.

11. I get about eight hours of good sleep every night and wake refreshed.

12. My weight is within the healthy range for my height.

13. I regularly learn new skills to keep my mind active.

14. I have a period of unstructured relaxation time every week.

Now, add up your score:

12 points or more: Well done! You are most likely already in great health and doing better than most people in your age group. You are the sort of person who focuses on preventative health and maximising your wellbeing.

5 to 11 points: You might want to consider taking more steps to improve your health to prevent any longterm degeneration in your health. You could enlist the support of appropriate health practitioners to address specific issues.

0 to 4 points: Take a look at some of the responses where you said no. If you want to feel better than you presently do, you could incorporate some new health practices into your life. You have probably been forced to read this column by a loved one who is concerned about your wellbeing!

This quiz is general of course, but might help you gain some insight into where the gaps are between how you are feeling now and how healthy you would really like to feel.

Life Changing Information for people with cancer presented

by Dr. Peter Daale, Paul Alexander & Bavali Hill

in the news“Wellness is a connection of paths:

Knowledge and Action”

Is it possible that wearing a bra can actually cause cancer? Studies show that this is a very real possibility. The reason is that regularly wearing a bra prevents lymph drainage and circulation, which can greatly increase the possibility of developing breast cancer.

The lymphatic and circulatory systems are responsible for both delivering vital nutrients and clearing out toxins. When the body does not have access to nutrients or when it is under the attack of toxins, cancer may develop.

A study published in the European Journal of Cancer studied factors for breast cancer such as breast size and handedness. They discovered that premenopausal women who do not wear bras are less than half as likely to get breast cancer that those who regularly wear a bra. A study conducted by researcher David Moth revealed that even the lightest bras place pressure on the lymphatic system.

Other research published in Chronobiology International in 2000 discovered that regular bra wearing decreases the production of melatonin, which is a potent natural antioxidant and the hormone that regulates sleep, boosts the immune system and, incredibly fights aging. Balanced melatonin levels are essential for the body to fight many types of cancer, including breast cancer.

Researchers Singer and Grismaijer observed 4,500 women and their bra wearing practices. An amazing 3 out of 4 women who wore their bras 24 hours per day developed breast cancer. Women who wore their bras more than 12 hours per day had a 1 in 7 chance of getting breast cancer. 1 out 152 women who wore their bra less than 12 hours a day got breast cancer and an incredibly low 1 out of 168 women who rarely or never wear a bra developed breast cancer.

These same researchers studied the indigenous populations of New Zealand and Australia. The Maoris, who are indigenous to New Zealand, are basically fully integrated into mainstream New Zealand life and interestingly have the same chances of developing breast cancer. The aboriginals of Australia on the other hand have not integrated into regular western society and do not regularly wear bras, and have practically no breast cancer. Japanese, Fijians, and many women from other cultures were found to have a significantly higher chance of developing breast cancer when they began wearing bras.

It may be interesting to note that a very small proportion of men do develop breast cancer, exactly the same amount as women who go braless! ✦

Elements of diet for longevityScientists in the US say moderate wine consumption (a glass a day) in combination with a large intake of fruit, vegetables and olive oil can increase life expectancy. On the negative side, the effect is associated with a very low intake of red meat, and neutrally, with fish and seafood consumption. The researchers, a team at Harvard School of Public Health, led by Professor Dimitrios Trichopoulos, report in the British Medical Journal. ✦

Vegetarians’ cancer risk is lower than meat eaters’

The risk of developing some types of cancer may be reduced by a meat-free diet, according to a study by scientists at Cancer Research UK.

In a sample of more than 61,000 people, monitored over 12 years, the vegetarians turned out to be at 12 per cent less risk overall than the meat eaters. People who eat fish but no meat also have a “significantly lower” chance of developing many cancers.

The results, published in the British Journal of Cancer, show that in the case of leukaemia, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the vegetarians’ risk was 45 per cent lower than meat eaters’.

In a separate study, it has been shown that he risk of pancreatic cancer is increased in those whose diet includes a lot of red meat and dairy products, say scientists. A team from the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the [US] National Cancer Institute reports that people who consume the most saturated fats are 1.36 times more likely than those consuming the least to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The results appear in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. ✦

Scientific research especially in Heart and Acupuncture Sciences confirm the traditional holistic concept of the Chinese Medicine where the heart as a central organ of the human body besides of many important physiological functions is housing the mind ( Shen). The mind has the broad meaning manifested in vital activities of the whole body and the narrow meaning of consciousness especially the spirit and thinking.

Shen is usually translated as “spirit” and refers to that aspect of our being that is spiritual. It embodies consciousness, emotions, and thought. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Shen is said to preside over activities that take place in the mental, spiritual, and creative planes. Chinese masters say it is through Shen that we radiate ourselves into the world. This “spiritual radiance” manifests as our wisdom, emotional well being, and ability to see all sides of an issue. Shen refers to that aspect of our being that looks to the universe around us, and is not focused on emotions. Shen draws our attention to the divine. It contributes to wisdom, virtue, and calmness, and maintains the wellness & health of our whole being. Shen is likely our soul closed in our body, helping us to discern what is wrong and what is right. In informational matters it depends on Hun, another spirit, which is resident of the liver. Hun works like a news reporter, delivering to Shen what the entire Person has done. The communication of the both is most intense between 10pm and 12 midnight and has the best performance during our sleep, says this ancient Chinese story.

The lack of information due to disharmony of Shen, which often manifests itself as anxiety with heart palpitations or heartache, insomnia, lacklustre eyes, muddled thinking, forgetfulness, chronic restlessness, mania, in severe cases, mental illness, including depression, poor memory and dementia.. The modern sleep medicine teaches us that most precious part of our sleep is the first part of our rest at night, especially by the phase with REM (Rapid Eyes Movement) where

the entire body is relaxed, with exception of the heart and breathing muscles, even the eyes are deep relaxed showing the uncoordinated rapid movements.

It is said that Shen can be strengthened through meditation, physical exercises such as Qi Gong and by acupuncture.

The heart communicates with the brain and the entire body in three ways documented by solid scientific evidence:

● neurologically (through transmissions of nerve impulses-electricity based)

● biochemically (through hormones and neurotransmitters, including oestrogen and testosterone)

● biophysically (through pressure and pulse waves).

In addition, growing scientific evidence suggests that the heart may communicate with the brain, especially brain stem, including Hippocampus and body in a fourth way – energetically (through the electromagnetic field interactions). The heart produces 2.5 watts of electrical energy every heart beat, which creates a pulsating electromagnetic field. The heart’s energy field is sixty times stronger than the amount of the electrical energy produced by the brain itself. It is so strong, that the ECG and HRV can be read from as far as three feet (more than 1 meter distance) and the brain is constantly exposed to this electromagnetic, informational environment.

This informational field contains all information about the environment within the body and external factors contributing to the short term memory. It can explain my own experience with heart transplant patients and the scientific evidence of this phenomenon that sensitive transplant patients may evidence personal changes that parallel the history of their donors. The field the heart produces is holographic, that means that it can be read from any point of the body and from any point within the field.

The communication between the heart and brain is a very dynamic, ongoing, two-way dialogue, with each organ continuously influencing and modulating the other’s function. Moreover, the research, especially from the Institute of HeartMath in California, USA discovered that the heart has a very sophisticated organised neuronal tissue and that up to sixty percent of the cardiac cells are special neural cells, which are operating through the same connecting links called ganglia, with the same connections that takes place in the brain. There are 40.000 thousands of them and they are located mainly around the right side of the heart.

One of the tools which is widely used for tracing the interactions between heart and brain is the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) which is the manifestation of the response given by the heart on a beat to beat basis to the changing external and internal environment.

This is an example of registration of the heart portrait as a baseline (left) and one hour later, after the treatment with medical acupuncture. Please notice the dramatic improvement of image. The female patient came and referred to a “broken heart” in her perception of her own heart.

Every heart performs 80,000 to 100,000 thousand beats per 24 depending how high the pulse rate of an individual is. All these beats are registered, measured and displayed in what forms a kind of comet, which is unique for each of us.

One possibility for survival, in a situation such as a heart attack, is that the part of the heart tissue not receiving sufficient blood supply goes into Hibernating Myocardium. This state places the heart into a sleeping mode; otherwise the heart cells would die. This condition describes the state in which the blood supply is regulated at a minimal level to allow survival of the heart cells, but not a physiological state of function.

The reduced supply to the brain also appears to impact brain function, especially in the highly active regions determining our personality (Hippocampus and the sites for memory). This can be a new approach to Alzheimer’s disease with the focus on the heart function and its consequences for the brain. Once blood flow is restored, the Hibernating Myocardium starts its normal function and in this way the supply of blood to the brain can be improved significantly.

The scientific work with the study based on collecting data using the new European technology including Heart Rate Variability (HRV), multi channel ECG record and Cardiac Stress Index as a cardio portrait gave me more insight into the importance of Neurocardiology and the interaction between heart and brain, which is a very new development linking the heart sciences and Neurology, the science focusing on brain and nerves and their function in the human body.

The analysis of the heart rate variability (HRV) is a powerful, non-invasive measure of neurocardiac function that reflects heart–brain interactions and displays the relationship of the breathing (oxygenation) and hormonal regulation in context of the autonomic nervous system dynamics.

The scientific evaluation of these communication pathways using the new cardio imaging technology seems to be a promising tool in looking specifically at how the brain responds to patterns generated by the heart and in breaking through the common view, that brain dominates the heart. ✦

Recommendations to Prevent and Overcome Cancer

There is a problem with the way that we respond to cancer. Conventional medicine tells us that malignant tumours and cancer are one and the same; but in fact, they are not. We have what could be called a tumour fetish or further, a tumour in our thinking, and it is because we insist on thinking that cancer is an ‘Object’ (i.e., a tumour) when in fact cancer is a ‘Process’. And we think that getting rid of the object (or tumour) cures cancer. This approach is short sighted at best; and at worst, it takes our focus away from the real problem. In reality, the appearance of a malignant tumour can be likened to the ‘engine light’ that comes on in a car to alert the driver of a problem. The only time the ‘engine light’ comes on is after a problem has developed. Similarly, a tumour that is often said to be “the cancer” is really an indication (or symptom) of a deeper problem.

What do we do when a malignant tumour symptom is discovered? We typically proceed to remove it by using surgery and/or various poisonous drugs. But that’s a bit like poking the engine light to make it go out without looking into what made it go on. In other words, removing the tumour does not necessarily remove its cause. By ignoring the condition in the body that produced the tumour we mask the real problem of cancer. It is similar to a fireman focusing on eliminating the smoke instead of putting out the fire that caused the smoke.

There is something fundamentally wrong with this way of thinking about cancer, and it is time to ask some different questions. Instead of focusing only on getting rid of tumour symptoms, more attention should be given to changing the environment within our body to make it less cancer-friendly. We can turn off the ‘engine light’ by changing the chemistry in our body to make it more healthy and less conducive for the process of cancer to thrive.

Fact: an unhealthy environment within the body actually promotes cancer. Diet and lifestyle changes can be made to support health and healing. The ever-growing problem of cancer in all its forms is a constant reminder that we should seriously question the routine practice of removing tumour symptoms with drugs or surgery. This practice is at best only a short term solution and at worst a deadly exercise.

It is vitally important that we nourish our body with a high percentage of whole plant-based foods, live foods that are rich with their own digestive enzymes. These same foods can facilitate oxygen circulation at the cellular level. This helps transform an acid rich cancer-friendly body chemistry to a healthy (and slightly) alkaline body chemistry.

Diet and lifestyle changes can do a lot to empower each of us to deal effectively with cancer which is one of the most serious health concerns of our time. ✦

Mauris Emeka is the author of the book Fear Cancer No More – Preventive and healing information everyone should know, copyright 2002. Also, see his book Cancer’s Best Medicine – A Self-Help and Wellness Guide, second edition, copyright 2008. www.cancernomore.com

Consider the following recommendations for helping to prevent and overcome cancer:

• Do Not Eat foods that cancer cells consume with ease and convert into energy – such as refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, refined flour, refined grains, and simple carbohydrates like white rice, macaroni, spaghetti, and pasta. The body quickly converts these foods into glucose, the main source of energy for cancer cells.

• Do No Eat foods that compromise the immune system, thus encouraging the growth of cancer cells. They include corn oil, soy oil, as well as other polyunsaturated and hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, including margarine; also, aspartame, chemical preservatives, and food additives.

• Do Not Eat animal protein, especially meat, most dairy (including cheese and pasteurized milk, as they make body chemistry more acidic, and they weaken the all important immune system). Moreover, animal protein has no fibre and this contributes to sluggish bowel regularity. As a result, this makes for a more cancer-friendly environment.

• On the other hand, we should eat Super Foods like the ones about to be mentioned because they bolster the immune system, provide much needed fibre and antioxidants, and they create an alkaline environment rich in protein digesting enzymes and in oxygen. We are referring to foods like Garlic, Apricot Kernels, Asparagus, Deep Green Leafy Vegetables (e.g., collard greens, turnip greens, kale, and their freshly squeezed juices). Note that leafy green vegetables are rich sources of magnesium and alkalizing and oxygen producing nutrients; Papaya and Papaya Seeds (rich in cancer fighting protein digesting enzymes); Pineapple; Turmeric spice, Green tea and Aloe Vera (strong anti-inflammatory and alkalizing foods); Seaweed (excellent source of much needed iodine and selenium); Essiac tea (body detoxifier); Legumes, which are complex carbohydrates like lima beans, lentils, and black-eyed peas; Soy Sprouts (a complete source of easily digestible protein that also promotes alkaline body chemistry); Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables (including red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, pomegranates, blackberries, figs, raspberries); Whole grains (mainly millet and oatmeal).

July 2009 12

It was in the summer of 2007, a month after I turned 26, that I received a diagnosis of acute myelogenous leukemia, a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Without treatment, the doctors told me, I had six weeks to live. With treatment, I was still going to have a hard fight – a fight I took on, but not without reservations. Three months into it, after three back-to-back rounds of chemotherapy had failed to put me into remission, a stem cell transplant was my only hope.

The decision to go through with that transplant was a hard one. The numbers were stacked against me: I had only a 10 to 30 percent chance of surviving, and if I did, my future would be different from the one I had imagined for myself.

Not that I had a set plan for life, but I did have set of ideas: travel, journalism, adventure, love, a future rich with experience. I never considered limitations, only possibilities.

It was this spirit that took me to New Orleans in 2003 after graduating from college. I didn’t know what to do with myself back then until a blue-eyed debutante who drove around in a light-blue Cadillac told me that in the Big Easy I could ride a bike everywhere (I could not afford a car) and that jazz spilled into the streets. Those reasons were enough for me to pick up and go.

I believed my life would always be like that: free and mobile and unrestricted. But the treatment regimen that my doctors described to me four years later made me wonder if I’d have to live a compromised life. The life of a caged bird. I thought it might be better to die.

I remember asking a doctor during the first 24-hour, seven-day chemotherapy drip, “Will I be able to go to New Guinea one day? He scrunched his face. “Why would you want to go there?”

I didn’t want to go there. New Guinea was just the most remote place I could think of. I needed to be reassured that the day would come when I’d travel to faraway places again.

As the odds against me grew greater and the treatment options more extreme, I confronted the issue of children. The full-body radiation that precedes the stem cell transplant would make me infertile. I sat cross-legged in my hospital bed, a mound of tissues piling in my lap, as I mourned the children I would never birth. A friend tried to cheer me up. “Well, the upswing is that you won’t have to use a condom anymore,” Dave said. I guess that could be considered a silver lining, but I would rather have had my eggs.

I did not have a desperate yearning to have children, but to have the choice radiated out of my body – to be sterilized – what kind of woman would that leave me? And menopause: It’s a cloud that hangs over every young

woman’s future, but I’d venture to say that many of us – myself included – don’t know much about it. Would I dry up and become uninterested in men? Would I be a 56-year-old woman in a 26-year-old body? Or worse, would I acquire the body and energy of a woman 30 years my senior?

My fears about the future were powerful. But the real reason I considered refusing treatment was that I was exhausted. Fatigue sapped my will to live, to try anything. Yes, my bone marrow was chock-full of leukemia, and I’m sure that played a part. But still, I felt as if I had acquired a lifetime of tiredness and a sense of helplessness against the tide of sorrow around me.

I had received my diagnosis exactly two years after I had fled New Orleans to escape Hurricane Katrina. I was not yet over that heartbreak.

And there is so much suffering in this world. So much war. Anger. Hatred. Hunger – of all different kinds. For food. Money. Power. Love. I told my best friend, Chelsa, “This could be my way out. No more suffering.”

She cried. Held my hand gently in her lap. Then asked, “But will that really make it go away?”

The suffering wouldn’t die with me, I knew. But my overwhelming sense was that the only way I would survive was if I could find a compelling enough reason to live.

I do not cling to life as others might, out of fear of death, which I do not have. I’m not married; I don’t have children; I don’t feel strongly connected to any piece of land; nor do I fight for any specific cause. I could not rely on the strength of an attachment to give me the will to live.

I did – and do – have an insatiable curiosity, though, and as I addressed each of my fears, I began to wonder what life would be like if I were to live it. Could my life possibly become less caged than before? Less indebted to my insecurities and expectations? My reflections became almost whimsical as I weighed life vs. death. No matter what my decision was, I would be jumping into the unknown where, I realized, I’d been walking all along.

I began to wonder how others would be affected if I gave up because I was angry about restricted travel, or because I would have to love children with different genes, or because suffering sucks.

Of course it does.

And what if I went through the transplant and died anyway? I could choose death; that outcome was certain if I did not continue treatment. But choosing life was the ultimate risk.

My transplant specialist talked with me about my doubts and fears. When we found out after the third round of chemo that 40 percent of my blood was still infected with leukemia, he sat down next to me and asked, “Where do we go when we die?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. Isn’t that part of the adventure?”

My doctor encouraged me to go through treatment, but he let me know – even as I signed the consent forms for the transplant – that it was okay if I decided to back out.

Each day I lived, life would have to be my deliberate choice.

In a situation that feels utterly powerless, when your body betrays you and you need doctors, nurses, blood transfusions, IV nutrition, medicine and the mercy of insurance companies and God to keep you alive, this personal power gave me the will to try. ✦

Watching Discovery Channel a few nights ago with my son, a documentary on super humans was shown. One of those featured was famous futurist Ray Kurzweil who believes one day in the next 20 years, we will have the technology for humans to live 300 to 400 years old.

There are three Kurzweil bridges to radical life extension. First is one we can do today to live longer. Second is reprogramming our bodies to live longer and healthier with the help of targeted pharmaceuticals that will keep our body away from disease and aging. Third is nanotechnology. Kurzweil predicts a day when little nanorobots can travel our bloodstream to fix damages and keep us healthy inside.

Kurzweil at 58 has the body profile of a 38 year old according to his latest medical test. He keeps himself healthy while waiting for nanotechnology to make him nearly immortal by drinking10 cups of green tea a day, taking 250 supplements, drinking 8 to 10 glasses alkaline water, keeping a positive disposition in life and exercising on the treadmill daily. We know the other tricks, manage stress, don’t smoke, eat healthy (low fat, low sugar, low salt) and don’t drink alcohol excessively.

Although a successful inventor and New York businessman, Kurzweil became known as an author of “The Age of Intelligent Machines” which the Association of American Publishers awarded as the Most Outstanding Computer Book of 1990. Aside from computer books, he co-authored with a medical doctor and specialist in alternative medicine “Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough To Live Forever”.

It was in the amazing and positive realization that we are in the brink of technology that will prolong our lives long enough to nurture our relationships and complete our mission and in the spirit of promoting hope that I share the discovery of a medical doctor who survived a

fatal heart disease, bankruptcy, and even federal prison and turned all these seeming negative events into a single powerful and life-changing experience through warp speed healing!

Noah’s Ark“I am a physician, schooled in the world’s finest medical traditions, but in the fall of 1989, all my years of medical training, practice, and theory came crashing down around me when I was suddenly stricken by an incurable, incapacitating and near-universally fatal medical condition called viral cardiomyopathy.

The prognosis was grim. The disease is especially deadly in young people; at age 33, my life expectancy dropped to just 24 months. I became an invalid overnight. Confined to my bed and utterly dependent on oxygen, there was little to do but read – just as you are reading now. That’s where the miracles began. I am here today to tell you my story because what I learned from the work of an Irish physicist by the name of John Stewart Bell saved my life – and it can save yours, too. I found my path to warp speed wellness.”

These were the words of an American doctor addressing a group of local and foreign attendees in the recently concluded Spa Asia convention this year held at Sofitel. Grateful enough that Tourism Undersecretary for Sports and Wellness Cynthia Carrion gave me the chance to meet and talk to this man in person, I was very blessed to talk to him not once but several times as he came back to Manila weeks after the convention ended.

Who is this man? Inspirational speaker Dr. Noah McKay is the author of a book titled Wellness at Warp Speed: Your Health, Your Destiny, Your Choice (Ed – reviewed in this magazine). What makes him captivating is his passion to spread his message and the tranquility of his soul that radiates from his every word.

Dr. Noah McKay M.D. was an inspirational speaker, pioneering physician, author, and international healthcare consultant who took his fundamental healing message of love, compassion and forgiveness to people and institutions around the world. His recently published book ‘Wellness at Warp Speed’ is a culmination of his professional and personal life experiences, and details his formula for quantum healing.

WELLNESS July 2009 15

There are a lot of inspirational speakers, but maybe the reason Dr. Noah has 100,000 fans, who listen to his radio program in Washington State, is that he speaks the truth. He has a team of volunteers who globe-trots with him at their own expense. As a Tuft’s University magna cum laude in biology and an Albert Einstein College graduate of medicine, he could get technical on quantum science, but in his book, he shares, in lay language, how atoms and sub-atomic particles in the body travel at warp speed or the speed of light. Many of today’s medical diagnostics like CT, PET, and MRI draw from this science which, according to Dr. Noah, can bring robust health as well as well-being. While waiting for inevitable death from acute heart failure, he went on what he thought would be a final vacation in Mexico. There, he met a “yogi” who helped him awaken his body’s own healing powers.

Dr. Noah survived his illness and dedicated the next 20 years of his life exploring the converging disciplines of quantum physics, spirituality, and alternative medicine to bring about healing at warp speed. Just like Noah in the Old Testament, this Noah wants to bring about a new world of peace, happiness, and wellness. He has dedicated his life to the mission of sharing his discovery that “illness, disability, divorce, bankruptcy, and prison are opportunities in disguise, chances to reconnect with higher selves as part of the infinite source of healing that unifies and connects us all.”

Paying for the good life“As a medical student I was told it would be wrong to give my patients a false sense of hope. Today, I know better. Hope is the first step in the recovery process, and no one is better positioned to take advantage of its powerful healing potential than you. There is nothing false about having the imagination and courage to begin manifesting a healthy future that is not yet visible to others. Don’t be afraid to lose yourself in the ecstasy of the moment and envision your preferred future as one of peace, health, and happiness,” urged Dr. Noah.

He added, “Your heart, body, and mind work together as a fully integrated system to process information and formulate a response to the things happening within and around you. Because of this, your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can kill you – or they can make you well. The recovery process is not random or beyond your control; in a very real sense, the choice is yours. We’re living in consumption-driven economies where advertisers remind us each day that we are inferior and incomplete if we don’t own the latest products. Half of us are paying for ‘the good life’ with high-stress jobs and lifestyles that will kill us early; the other half are trying desperately to reach the bottom rung of a ladder that ultimately leads us nowhere.”

He lamented, “We take pills to cope with depression and anxiety. We take pills to help us sleep. We take lattes to help us wake up. Our bodies are bombarded with a constant stream of electromagnetic radiation from the high-tech devices we work so hard to buy.”

In his book, Dr. Noah details the Einstein formulas he used, combined with medicine, to reverse disease and disability at the speed of light. He refers to our body as the world’s most advanced self-repairing system in the whole universe and enlists simple techniques to tap the unlimited potential of the Quantum body. He used his healing strategies to develop an insanely successful practice combining mainstream and alternative medicine. His phenomenal success in Washington state led to a controversial conflict with health insurance companies (because his clinic offered more comprehensive health services for one-third the price), which sent him to a year in federal prison. Dr. Noah said he learned more healing techniques in that one year than in four years of medical school. From his prison sanctuary evolved five powerful lessons he shared in his book and lectures. These are strategies worth pursuing: Let go of the past. Live in the moment. Detach from anger. Embrace gratitude. Experiment with love.

To finish, I would like share the lyrics of a song from the much celebrated “Noel” album of Josh Groban...

From: ww.philstar.com. Dr. Noah McKay M.D. died in February 2009, from complications after an aortic dissection. He survived the initial surgeries to repair the aorta, and he impressed the medical staff with his determination, his positive outlook and his proactive approach to healing. Although making good progress in his condition, he expressed very clearly on his last day to his family, that it was time for him to move on. He describe that it “ was bigger than him, bigger than family, bigger than illness”, and he was moving on. We, his family, believe that he was called on to serve a higher purpose and his spirit is now engaged in the kind of powerful energetic healing that he so strongly believed in and advocated.

Drt Noah’s email newsletter ‘Wellness at Warp Speed’ will continue. Subscribe at www.wellnessatwarpspeed.com. The newsletter includes passages from his book, his presentations, and his other writings to keep his positive message of love, gratitude and wellness alive.

Some days we forget, to look around us.

Some days we can’t see, the joy that surrounds us

So caught up inside ourselves. We take when we should give.

Look beyond ourselves. There’s so much sorrow.

It’s way too late to say. I’ll cry tomorrow.

Each of us must find our truth. It’s so long overdue.

Even with our differences. There is a place we’re all connected

Each of us can find each other’s light.

So for tonight we pray for what we know can be.

And on this day we hope for what we still can’t see.

It’s up to us to be the change. And even though this world

needs so much more,

There’s so much to be thankful for.

What you don’t know about vitamins and minerals may destroy your health. I don’t make this statement lightly, as I have worked with enough people who have hurt their health with synthetic vitamin and mineral supplements to know that experiencing vitamin and mineral toxicity is far more common than you might think.

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins, meaning that these vitamins can be stored in your fat tissues. Even if you are super lean, your body has significant fat stores in and around all of your organs, as well as in the layer of fascia that lies between your muscles and skin. When consumed in excess, fat-soluble vitamins can cause a number of symptoms related to toxicity since they are easily stored in your body.

Water-soluble vitamins like the entire spectrum of B vitamins and vitamin C are not stored in your fat tissues. Although your body is capable of excreting excess amounts of water-soluble vitamins from your body (mainly through your urine), water-soluble vitamins can still be toxic to your system and cause significant damage to your tissues if consumed in excess.

Take, for example, vitamin B6. Some published studies indicate that taking large quantities of vitamin B6 (up to 75 mg per day) may alleviate symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. The generally recommended daily allowance of vitamin B6 is 1.3 to 1.7 mg per day. While your body will work to eliminate extraneous amounts of vitamin B6, if you regularly consume extremely large amounts of vitamin B6, you will almost certainly arrive at a day when your body will not be able to eliminate enough of the extraneous B6 to prevent B6-related toxicity and tissue damage. The same is true for other water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins; if regularly consumed in excess, vitamins and minerals can physically damage your cells.

Fortunately, there’s a simple way to avoid vitamin and mineral toxicity: it’s to avoid synthetic nutritional supplements, and to focus on eating fresh, minimally processed foods. Whole foods that are found in nature contain only trace amounts of vitamins and minerals. This is why vitamins and minerals are called micronutrients – they exist in micro amounts in natural foods, and they are needed by your body in micro amounts.

The trace amounts of vitamins and minerals that are found in minimally processed, natural foods are packaged together with large quantities of macronutrients like carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Vitamins and minerals in whole plant foods are also bundled together with fibre. When you obtain your vitamins and minerals from whole foods, the carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fibre in whole foods fill you up and tell you to take a break from eating before you consume dangerous levels of vitamins and minerals.

Whole foods contain much larger amounts of carbohydrates, protein, and fat than vitamins and minerals because carbohydrates, protein, and fat are the primary sources of fuel that you use to generate energy for all of your activities.

Vitamins and minerals serve as enzymes and co-enzymes that allow your cells to metabolize the sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids found in carbohydrates, protein, and fat. If you’ve studied biochemistry, take some time to review the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and why it is needed for your cells to synthesize energy (ATP) – this will allow you to clearly see the important roles that vitamins and minerals play on a microscopic level in your second-to-second metabolism.

The bottom line is this: the best and safest way to nourish your body with vitamins and minerals is to get them from whole, natural foods. While you can obtain significant quantities of the vitamins and minerals that you need from raw foods, to ensure optimal nourishment with vitamins and minerals, it doesn’t hurt to include some cooked foods, broths, and soups in your diet, as cooking vegetables can make some vitamins and minerals more easily accessible.

The best way to become deficient in vitamins and minerals is to eat foods that are highly processed. Highly processed foods that typically include large quantities of sugar, white flour, and cheap vegetable oils fill you up and give you the illusion that you have eaten enough to satisfy your nutrient needs, even though they are sparse in nutrients.

This is where the principle of nutrient-density comes in; a simple key to promoting nutritional excellence is to regularly eat foods that are nutrient-rich. This is another way of saying that you should mainly

eat minimally processed whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and if in line with your beliefs, clean animal foods like organic eggs, wild fish, and organically raised flesh meats.

If your intake of fresh, whole foods is lacking at times, or if you find that the quality of produce that is available to you isn’t as good as it can be, you can safely ensure optimal intake of vitamins and minerals by consuming nutritional supplements that are made with whole foods.

Here are two key guidelines for choosing the best possible whole food supplements to ensure nutritional excellence:

• Look for supplements that are made with 100% whole foods; if the ingredients label doesn’t clearly list only whole foods, and if you see fractionated chemicals like “ascorbic acid” or “Vitamin C” without an accompanying listing of a whole food source, then you are likely looking at a supplement that contains synthetic nutrients.

• Look for supplements that come in dark glass jars. Dark glass jars (like amber-colored glass jars) are the best storage containers for preserving nutrient integrity because they are inert (chemically inactive), and they protect the essential fatty acids in whole foods. Plastic containers may allow oxygen to seep in over time, which can cause significant degradation of nutrient value.

Most nutritional supplements are packaged in plastic bottles because plastic is cheap and doesn’t break.

The two programs outlined here are excellent adjuncts to a minimally processed, whole food diet, and can help to ensure that you safely ingest optimal amounts of the vitamins and minerals that you need to be at your best.

What if the amount of vitamins and minerals in the programs above don’t match the number of milligrams you are looking for of certain vitamins and minerals? Please remember that most recommended values are based on synthetic nutrients, and don’t take into account all of the dietary and lifestyle factors that influence how efficiently you break down and utilize the nutrients in your foods and supplements. ✦

On a Daily Basis:1-2 tablespoons of super green food formula2-3 teaspoons of acerola cherry powder1 tablespoon of cod liver oil

Sometimes, I mix all three with water in a jar with a lid and shake vigorously before drinking. At other times, I blend all three ingredients into a smoothie, using any fresh fruits on hand. My usual smoothie consists of 1 banana, 2 tablespoons of blueberries, 1 tablespoon of soaked goji berries, and 1-2 cups of a non-dairy milk, such as almond milk.

On days when my schedule is extra busy and I don’t have time to take the whole food supplements mentioned above, I take six tablets of a whole food vitamin and mineral formula. I like to split the six tablets into two portions; three in the morning, and three in the evening. I also take a course of professional grade probiotic about once every three months to help ensure I have plenty of friendly bacteria in my intestines.

If you’re looking for specific recommendations on what to take, here are two programs I generally recommend:

Whole Food Nutritional Supplementation Program One• 1 teaspoon of super green food formula (ie Vital Greens available in the CSA Wellness Shop – Ed) per 50 pounds of body weight per day• 1 teaspoon of acerola cherry powder per 50 pounds of body weight per day• 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil or fish oil per 50 pounds of body weight per day – cod liver oil during colder months, and fish oil during warmer months if you get regular exposure to sunlight

Whole Food Nutritional Supplementation Program Two• 6 tablets of 100% whole food vitamin and mineral formula, three in the morning, and three in the evening (if you have no known health challenges and eat plenty of fresh, natural foods, you may even consider taking less than this, say 1-2 tablets in the morning and 1-2 tablets in the evening)

• 1-2 capsules of professional grade probiotic in the morning, and 1-2 capsules in the evening, as often as your digestive tract feels uncomfortable (whenever you have any symptoms of indigestion like gas and bloating for more than a few hours a day)

• 1 teaspoon of fish oil per 50 pounds of body weight per day

If you want to significantly lower your risk of developing cancer, consider eating cabbage at least a few times a week. Cabbage belongs to the Cruciferous family of vegetables – other vegetables that belong in this family include broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, Brussels sprouts, Bok Choy, watercress, and arugula.

Phytonutrients found in cabbage and other Cruciferous vegetables stimulate your genes to increase production of enzymes that detoxify your cells, resulting in elimination of free radicals, toxins, and potential carcinogens from your body.

People who eat large amounts of cruciferous vegetables have a lower-than-average risk of developing lung, colon, breast, ovarian, prostate, and bladder cancer.

Perhaps the most powerful, anti-cancer phytonutrient found in cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables is indole-3-carbinole, a compound that stimulates cellular detoxification, including estrogen detoxification. Indole-3-carbinole’s ability to prevent estrogen dominance is what makes cruciferous vegetables like cabbage an excellent food choice for cancer prevention, particularly breast cancer prevention.

If you want to enjoy the many health benefits of cabbage but don’t know where to start, give the following Cabbage-Miso soup a try. It’s super easy to make, and is incredibly tasty.

Fresh garlic has many active constituents including alliin, allicin, alliinase and unique sulfur compounds. Allicin and the sulfur compounds of garlic are the ingredients primarily responsible for garlic’s potency as an antibiotic, anti-viral and a fungicide and for its use in treating high blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and for helping to prevent certain types of cancer, as well as its use as an immune stimulant. Allicin is a strong antibiotic agent produced when the alliin and alliinase are merged together, as happens when a fresh garlic clove is crushed or chewed.

Healing properties of garlicGarlic has been used in herbal medicine to treat asthma, deafness, leprosy, bronchial, congestion, hardening of arteries, fevers, worms and liver and gall bladder trouble. Herbal books list it being useful in Leucoderma, leprosy, piles, worms, catarrhal disorders and cough. Additionally, it is reported that garlic is good for the heart, stimulates appetite, and is an energy tonic.

Garlic’s unpleasant odor is due to its sulphur content. This mineral is contained to a greater degree in its volatile oil, which has remarkable medicinal virtues.

Juice of garlic has a most beneficial effect on the entire system as it helps dissolve an accumulation of mucus in the sinus cavities, bronchial tubes and the lungs. It also helps expel poison from body through pores of the skin.

Summary of benefits* Garlic is a gastric stimulant & helps with digestion.

* It acts as an anti flatulent, carminative and diaphoretic.

* It stimulates the kidneys and is diuretic in nature.

* It is a tonic, giving strength & vitality

* It is an expectorant having a special effect on the bronchial and pulmonary secretions.

* It is beneficial for eyes & brain.

* It helps to heal fractured bones (also see comfrey poultices)

* It is a great antiseptic.

* It has allicin, which has the property to destroy germs which are not killed by penicillin. As such, it is a very powerful germicidal.

* It rehabilitates sexual malfunctions.

* It improves functional activity of heavy smokers.

* Half a raw garlic clove a day can increase body activity to dissolve blood clots, thereby preventing heart attacks and strokes.

* A couple of raw garlic cloves daily can bring blood cholesterol levels down in heart patients.

Wellness at Warp Speed: Your Health, Your Destiny, Your Choice. By Dr. Noah McKay M.D.

Reading this book is, all by itself, a healing journey, and after finishing it, the reader is left with a refreshing, improved view of the way the universe really works – and an exciting new approach to achieving their own personal health goals.

Dr. Noah McKay personally encountered the limitations of conventional medicine when he was hospitalized in acute heart failure at the age of 33. Death seemed inevitable–until an “accidental” encounter with a yogi helped him unlock the infinite healing potential lying dormant within the subatomic structure of his own body. Intrigued by his own instantaneous recovery, he spent the next two decades exploring the converging disciplines of quantum physics, spirituality and alternative medicine.

Drawn from 20 years of clinical practice and a wildly diverse array of life experiences, Wellness at Warp Speed challenges professionals and lay-healers alike to rethink long-standing assumptions about the nature of disease and recovery. It offers a tantalizing introduction to the human body’s innate capacity for high-speed healing and provides simple, effective strategies anyone can use to activate their own healing potential.

Dr. McKay discovered the principle of non-locality, or what some people might call “the power of intention” or even “the power of prayer.” And he found a way to apply it to his own health, allowing him to overcome a serious cardiovascular infection that nearly destroyed his heart. Through his journey, he arrived at a set of principles that are set forth in Wellness at Warp Speed; principles that can unleash what I call “spontaneous healing” – a miraculous-seeming acceleration of natural healing that automatically follows the shifting of a person’s belief systems.

It is beliefs, you see, that determine a person’s possibilities in dealing with health challenges. People who believe in the limited options (and outdated paradigms) of conventional medicine are doomed to a life of disease and suffering. But those who free themselves from that outmoded pattern of thinking are able to tap into a whole new universe of possibilities for rapid healing. And since the body follows the mind, healing takes place almost instantly. The body literally creates a new reality based on what the mind believes. Symptoms vanish, and diseases become history.

This is what Wellness at Warp Speed teaches the reader to do. It reminds me of a case where a woman suffering from multiple personalities was diabetic in one personality, but when she flipped to her alternate personality, her blood sugar was normal. Her “disease,” you see, was merely the expression of who she thought she was, and as her personality switched from one belief system to another, her body automatically followed by either turning on the disease or turning it off. There are many, many cases in medical literature where patients demonstrate nearly instant cures of cancer, for example, when given inert serums that they believe to be breakthrough anti-cancer medicines. While conventional medicine would write this off as a placebo effect, more astute observers of this situation realize this demonstrates the power of the mind to determine the health outcome expressed by the body!

Change your mind, in other words, and your body will follow. That’s why real health transformation begins by shifting your belief systems.

Wellness at Warp Speed is the book that can change your mind in a positive way. Simply reading it is a transformational experience that can open you to new possibilities for health and healing – even for near-spontaneous disease reversal. No belief system is a replacement for emergency medicine, of course, if you need acute care of a broken leg from an automobile accident, for example, but holding the right frame of mind is absolutely crucial for preventing or overcoming so-called “degenerative” diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and others. These diseases do not exist anywhere other than in the expression of your physiology, and that’s determined largely by what you hold to be true (or at least possible) in your own mind.

WELLNESS July 2009 21

Wellness at Warp Speed is the perfect starting place for those ready to experience a dramatic shift in their health. If you’ve felt stuck in your health care, or if you’ve come to the inevitable conclusion that pharmaceuticals and surgery really aren’t the answer to health problems, then this timing is perfect: You’re ready to read Wellness at Warp Speed!

It’s not about herbs, superfoods, nutrition or other similar topics. Rather, it’s about causing healing to take place by learning how to release limiting beliefs so that you can unleash the innate healing potential that’s already programmed into your DNA (and, in fact, the very physical properties of your body’s cells).

Wellness at Warp Speed is the primer for future medicine. It is the guidebook that explains the paradigm under which I believe truly advanced medicine will one day operate. The collapse of the Cult of Pharmacology is now inevitable. When it’s gone, a new system of understanding about health and healing will sweep through society. I have no doubt that many of the key principles of that new system are precisely the ones described by Dr. Noah McKay in Wellness at Warp Speed. ✦

After being diagnosed with breast cancer last year, I was advised by my medical oncologist to take the drug Tamoxifen, as my tumour had been oestrogen-receptor positive (meaning that it had been stimulated by the presence of oestrogen). Tamoxifen has been around for about 30 years and is designed to block oestrogen from contact with breast cells, including breast cancer cells, while acting like oestrogen in other parts of the body.

I am always very loath to take prescription medication, because of serious side effects in the past. However, I had passed up some other recommended treatment aimed at preventing my breast cancer from returning, so I was interested in giving Tamoxifen a try. My trouble was anxiety about the possible side effects. When I collected the prescription, the Pharmacist had gone through these with me, from minor to major. They include blood clots and strokes, as well as a rare form of endometrial cancer. I put the prescription in the cupboard and tried to forget about it.

Then one night I heard the tail end of a current affairs item on television. All I heard was “gene testing that can predict how people will respond to medication.” I scribbled down the name of the company, GenesFX, and the following day, after finding their website, I sent an email asking if there was a test that would give me some information about how I would respond to Tamoxifen. I received a reply in the affirmative. I could have the Tamoxifen PredictAR test, otherwise known as CYP2D6.

My blood was collected by the local pathology laboratory and sent to Gribbles Pathology. The results were then sent to GenesFX, where a Clinical Geneticist interpreted them and wrote a comprehensive report for my doctor. This report showed that I was not at risk for serious side effects and that the drug would do what it is supposed to do. (I learned later that 10% of women get no benefit from Tamoxifen.). Importantly, the test also showed that another class of drugs should not be taken along with Tamoxifen, in my case.

After receiving all this information, I had something concrete to discuss with my doctor and gained the confidence to start the medication. I don’t know how long I will take it. Five years has been recommended, but I will review my decision from time to time and discuss the alternatives with my medical advisers. I am also exercising and reducing my weight, to reduce my oestrogen levels.

Like me, many people have had a serious reaction to a drug, landing them in hospital. In fact, adverse reactions to drugs are one of the main causes of hospitalisations in Australia and other western countries. So I think that many people may benefit from being tested, before making a decision about starting on a new drug. They might include people who are generally sensitive to medicines and other chemicals, (which is, I believe, a growing number of people!).

The test is very new and many doctors are as yet unaware of it, but in the future I think it will help people choose treatments that are safer and more effective. The GenesFX website is going to be improved soon, so that people will be able to look up the name of a drug to see if there is a test for it. Meanwhile, they answer all emails promptly. ✦

Poor Diet, Low Exercise Leads to Breast Cancer

A poor diet and a lack of exercise in childhood significantly increase a girl’s risk of breast cancer later in life, according to the findings of a study conducted by researchers from the European Cancer Prevention Organization, presented at the conference of the European Society for Medical Oncology and published in the journal Pediatrics.

“Breast cancer seems to originate almost entirely in childhood,” the researchers said. “The breast is most vulnerable at the very onset of development. Further research should focus on nutrition in children and breast cancer risk to prevent the disease.”

The researchers analyzed the diets and lifestyle habits of 1,146 girls from birth until the age of 13. They found that the three biggest predictors of an early onset of puberty in the girls were a sedentary lifestyle, obesity and a diet high in high-glycemic (simple) carbohydrates.

“We know breast cancer is associated with obesity and a lack of physical activity,” said Florian Strasser, scientific chair of the European Society for Medical Oncology. “This shows these factors are related to early puberty, which is also a risk factor.”

Childhood exposure to infectious mononucleosis (“mono”), also known as glandular fever, also increased the risk of early puberty. Another risk factor was high levels of exposure to estrogen-mimicking chemicals such as those found in polycarbonate water and baby bottles or plastic toys.

Two hormone-disrupting compounds that have garnered much attention recently are bisphenol A, used to line food and beverage containers and to make plastics hard and transparent, and phthalates, used to make plastics soft and flexible. Because they mimic the effects of estrogen in the body, they can lead to reproductive and other developmental defects.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide. In 2005, it caused 502,000 deaths, accounting for 1 percent of all deaths and 7 percent of all cancer deaths. ✦

Here’s some simple stretches to try with an exercise ball...

The bottom picture shows a more dynamic stretch. With the left hand and right foot on the ground, raise the right leg while turning your face to the right. Hold and repeat. Then repeat on the other side.

What could be simpler than draping yourself over an exercise ball? Yet, this simple stretch can do wonders for relieving degenerative back pain; by stretching your entire back gently. Using an exercise ball makes stretching more comfortable so you’ll be able to stay in position for longer, healing stretches.

I am doing Research into non-stressful and stressful (positive and negative) events effect on the body and I am looking for stories that follow what occurred prior to your illness till the resultant diagnosis. Stories of all illnesses, especially Cancer are very welcome. All stories are worthwhile including remembered childhood illnesses. I am omitting those illnesses caused by viral or bacterial means except of course cervical cancer (associated to Human papilloma virus (HPV)) which needs to be included.

To my knowledge this Research has not been done before. It is hoped a cure for several illnesses will develop from the research and by extending the work undertaken in “Mind, Fantasy and Healing: One women’s Journey from Conflict and Illness to Wholeness and Health“ by Alice Hooper Epstein (1989). Alice use’s meditation, Simonton’s Visualisation and Psychosynthesis (a form of psychology) to cure herself of Lung Cancer..

Real names will be kept confidential and stories will mostly be grouped for analysis of patterns for comparison of illnesses and of illness areas.

Please include (when known) the side of the body and the location in the body or organ the disease occurred, if possible. Eg. Left, Right, upper, lower, inner, outer etc. as this will help in understanding any patterns that occur.

Any analysed resultant patterns will be published as a complementary therapy for Cancer to be trialled in the respective Cancer Centres undertaking this research. Send to:
