She was first in the age 1011s 600m girls’ race and set a new course record in a time of 1 min 58 seconds.     Sophie  Thomas  Girls  Together  Role  Model  

    Sport  Cardiff  has  launched  a  brand  new  campaign  across  Cardiff  to  encourage  

    women  and  young  females  to  take  part  in  more  sporting  activity.  The  Girls  Together  campaign  aims  to  provide  a  programme  of  suitable  activities  across  the  City  of  Cardiff  

    for  females  of  all  ages  and  abilities  to  access.  

    Sophie  Thomas  (Yr8)  has  been  shortlisted  from  40  females  as  one  of  the  final  12  in  Cardiff  to  become  a  role  model  and  promote  the  developing  campaign.  

    The  campaign  will  have  four  key  areas  of  focus:  Play  –  participation  for  fun,  

    Compete  –  providing  a  pathway  of  suitable  competitions,  Coach  –  up-‐skilling  more  females  as  coaches  of  the  future,  and  

    Volunteer  –  directing  females  to  voluntary  opportunities  within  their  community.  

    Within  these  key  areas,  four  ambassadors  will  help  promote  the  opportunities  alongside  role  models,  to  engage  with  

    more  females  in  order  to  increase  physical  activity  and  reduce  the  current  gender  

    gap.            

    Congratulations  to  the  Yr9  ‘A’  Netball  Team  who  are  through  to  the  

    County  Finals.  4/4  wins  for  a  very  

    strong  Radyr  side.

    Yr11  Rugby  Cup  Success    Congratulations  to  the  Yr11  

    rugby  team  who  beat  Plasmawr  11-‐5  in  the  Cardiff  Schools’  Cup  Semi-‐  Final.  

    Well  done  to  Lewis  Jameson  who  was  awarded  man  of  the  

    match.    

     The  Final  will  take  place  on  Saturday  5th  March  at  the  Arms  Park,  12pm  KO.  All  support  is  

    welcome.  Good  luck  boys!  

    On  January  16th  &  17th  around  600  athletes  took  to  the  track  and  field  at  the  fantastic  facilities  in  NIAC,  Cardiff  to  compete  for  the  title  of  Welsh  Champion!  Radyr  pupils  were  on  top  form  and  were  crowned  

    Welsh  Champions  in  a  number  of  different  disciplines.  Congratulations  to  all  the  pupils

    Indoor  Athletics  County  Championships  Fantastic  turnout  for  the  U13/U16  boys’  

    and  girls’  indoor  athletics  County  Championships.  Over  50  talented  athletes  

    from  Radyr  were  involved.  Da  Iawn.      

    Senior  Hockey  Team    A  fantastic  day  at  the  Sport  Cardiff  Indoor  Cricket  

    Tournament.  The  girls  came  second  overall,  losing  by  6  runs  in  the  final  to  Plasmawr.  

     Latin  Dancer  Olivia  Jones-‐British  Open  Champion  On  January  the  9th  Olivia  Jones  (Yr11)  along  with  her  dance  partner  Kayleigh  Watts  won  the  Latin  dancing  Open  British  Championships  in  

    Blackpool.  They  won  one  of  the  most  prestigious  titles  for  Latin  

    dance  couples.

    Archer  Breaks  County  Record    

    Congratulations  to  Eve  Baldwin  (Yr8)  who  has  broken  

    the  County  Archery  record  in  her  age  group,  

    gaining  gold  in  her  last  two  

    competitions.  

    Congratulations  to  the  Senior  Girls’  Hockey  Team  for  getting  through  to  the  County  Finals.  

    Performance  Hub  Congratulations  to  Emilia  

    Whiles  (Yr9)  on  her  selection  for  the  High  

    Performance  Netball  Hub.  This  is  the  first  step  of  

    progressing  into  the  Welsh  Netball’s  High  Performance  

    Pathway.  At  the  end  of  each  season  a  centralised  HUB  

    tournament  is  held  to  identify  players  who  are  then  invited  to  trial  for  the  Wales  U15/U17/U19/U21  

    squads  for  the  following  season.  The  players  selected  will  shape  the  future  success  of  Welsh  Netball!
