Jim Kinniburgh presented a session on ‘Beginning Literacy” which was well received by all parents who attended. The morning went extremely smoothly thanks to the careful planning and organization of the Prep team, the Leadership Team and the support staff. The next session for our new Preps will be held on Tuesday 24 November, 9.00am and on this day the children will go directly to their classrooms to meet their teacher. Prep Transition Session 1 – Tuesday 10 November On Tuesday morning we welcomed our 2016 Prep students and their parents to Wembley for the first transition session. The children, who were allocated to four classes, met their new teacher and had the opportunity to interact with their new classmates. Congratulations to the 2016 Prep Teaching Team Simon King - Team Leader, Kate Gialamatzis, Candice De Chalain and Felicity Jones, for preparing the day and ensuring that all of new Preps were engaged and happy in their new class and school. Jim Kinniburgh presented a session on ‘Beginning Literacy” which was well received by all parents who attended. 2016 Class Structure There will be 30 classes in 2016. The majority of classes will be straight classes, however, there will be two composite classes. The class structure for 2016 is: Prep x 4 Year 1 x 6 Year 2 x 5 Year 3 x 3 Year 3/4 x 1 Year 4 x 4 Year 5 x 3 Year 5/6 x 1 Year 6 x 3 Thank you to all of the parents who contacted the school with information regarding their child’s/children’s 2016 class placement. The Collaborative Teaching Teams will be working on 2016 Class formation this week in preparation for our first “Stepping Up” session on Friday 27 November. In next week’s newsletter there will be information regarding the Years 1 to Year 6 transition program for this year. Final day of School - 2015 The 2015 school year concludes on Friday 18 December at 1.30pm. The final assembly for the year will commence at 1.15pm. 2016 Term Dates

• Friday 29 January - Students in Years 1-6 return to school for assembly at 9.00am.

• Monday 1 February - Prep students commence school at 9am (proceed directly to classrooms).

• Term 1: Friday 29 January - Thursday 24 March • Term 2: Monday 11 April - Friday 24 June • Term 3: Monday 11 July - Friday 16 September • Term 4: Monday 3 October - Tuesday 20 December

Volleyball champions Congratulations to our fabulous girls volleyball team. They were victorious at Maribyrnong secondary school, winning the Regional Championships. The team is now off to the Victorian State Championships on 20th November in Dandenong. All the girls should be so proud of their achievements and the dedication they have shown towards the game. Free all day kid’s film festival The largest short film festival in the west is back for 2016 and calling for entries. Wonders of the west, the 3rd Setting Sun Short Film Festival is happening 14-17 April 2016 at The Sun Theatre in Yarraville. This year, we are excited to announce we are producing a free all day kid’s film festival to be held at Footscray Town Hall 15th April, 2016. There is a small entry fee to cover costs but schools will be able to see the films for free. All information is available through the website www.settingsun.com.au. In the meantime, we are inviting your school/students to submit. If you could please let your students know through your newsletter, that we are calling for entries from now until 31st January, 2016 that would be helpful. The festival has its own newsletter. Please feel free to join the mailing list through the homepage of the website to stay up to date. The kid’s festival is open to all high school kids and secondary schools around Australia. Students and schools are invited to submit films. Preference is given to secondary schools but primary schools are welcome to make enquiries about entering films.
