yanGtZe riVer hiGhLiGhtsThe Yangtze River has been the lifeline of China for millennia. It was on the river banks that some of the earliest Chinese cultures existed; ever since it’s been essential for agriculture, transportation and for the development of the economy. Cruising the mighty Yangtze slows down the pace of your journey and helps you see China from a new perspective. All you have to do is sit back and admire the steady flow of history and heritage that survives along the river banks as you wind your way through impressive gorges and cliffs. The magnificent Three Gorges are the highlight – rising dramatically from the steadily flowing waters, each bend in the river offers a new breathtaking panorama.

yiChanGThe construction of the Gezhouba (Gezhou Dam) changed this sleepy first-century town into a thriving metropolis. Situated at the entrance to the xiling Gorge, it is the economic and cultural centre of the western Hubei Province.

shiBaOZhaiAlso known as the Precious Stone Fortress, Shibaozhai is one of China’s architectural gems, consisting of a gate, pavilion and temple built during the Ming dynasty. The 12-storey pavilion is built into the rock face and is the tallest example of ancient architecture in China.

NANJINgThe ‘Southern Capital’ – located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, originally a walled town built in the Eastern Han period (25-220AD). The founder of the Ming dynasty, Zhu Yuan Zhang, set up his capital here building palaces, temples and pagodas and enlarging the city wall to make it the longest city wall in the world.

the three GOrGesOne of nature’s most extraordinary sculptures carved along the Yangtze River from Fengjie in the east, the Three Gorges are xiling, wu and Qutang Gorges. As the river flows around each bend, a stunning new panorama awaits.

FenGDUlocated on the northern bank of the Yangtze, 176 kilometres downstream from Chongqing, Fengdu is known as the “Ghost City” and is a very popular shore excursion for Yangtze River cruise visitors. The Relocation Village was built on the south side of the Yangtze to accommodate residents displaced by rising waters resulting from the Three Gorges dam project.

WUhanwuhan is the biggest city in central China and the capital of the Hubei province. located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers, wuhan is composed of three separate cities; wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang. The city site was first settled in the first century during the Three kingdom era as part of the wu kingdom.

three GOrGes DamThe largest water conservancy project ever undertaken by man, the dam is at Sandouping, in the middle of xiling Gorge. 15 years in the making, the dam is 2,335 metres long, 185 metres high, 18 metres wide at the top and 130 metres wide at the base. Created to harness the power of the Yangtze, it is difficult not to be awestruck by this massive feat of engineering.

ChOnGqinGChongqing is a picturesque mountain city that clings to the steep cliffs located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. The city’s origins date back over 3,000 years and it is known to have served as the capital of the Ba kingdom prior to 316BC.

take an amazing journey through myanmar to see for yourself how river life dominates the country. the population is reliant on its rivers for transportation, irrigation and food. the irrawaddy, Chindwin and salween rivers wind from north to south, providing excellent

vantage points from which to witness local daily life.

irraWaDDy riVer hiGhLiGhtsOne of the best ways to see Myanmar is to travel along the Irrawaddy River in the comfort of a cruise ship. The river flows from the North to the South of Myanmar, ending in the Andaman Sea. It is the lifeline of the country, forming a system of transportation, irrigation and rich fishing grounds. Along the river, you will witness life away from the main tourist trails, giving you an insight to the lives of the locals.

ChinDWin riVer hiGhLiGhtsThe main tributary of the Irrawaddy River, the charming Chindwin River carves its way through Myanmar’s mountains and forests. On its banks are dramatic monuments, small remote villages and evidence of a lifestyle and culture that has remained unchanged for centuries.

saLWeen riVer hiGhLiGhtsThe Salween River is the longest river in Myanmar at 2,815km. It flows from Tibet, through Yunnan Province in China, and down the eastern edge of Myanmar parallel with the Thai border. Due to the incredible flow rate and rapids it is only navigable for a short section between its mouth at Martaban and the Karen State hill station of Hpa-An.

KeRALAIn India’s deep south you’ll find the coastal state of Kerala, a unique region which provides travellers with an insight into life by the water. The backwaters of Kerala are a network of canals that meander past palm-fringed rice paddies and villages, before flowing into the Arabian Sea. Enjoy some traditional Keralan food while drifting through quiet canals and witness village life along the riverbanks.

This is truly one of India’s most enchanting destinations – a colossal web of lakes, lagoons, canals and rivers lined with towering palms and lush foliage. The waters are plied with houseboats called kettuvallams – large floating structures with wooden hulls and thatched rooves. Originally, these intricately constructed barges were used to transport grain. Now, they offer the very best way to explore the backwaters, cruising lazily amongst the maze to give you a chance to enjoy life on the

water and anchoring overnight for you to drift off to the sound of lapping water. delicious local food is prepared on board to enhance your keralan experience.

Seeing India from the water is once in a lifetime experience. To make it even more wonderful, ask our reservations team about adding to your India tour – we can tailor-make an itinerary for you to ensure you see all that India has to offer.

We strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the latest Government Consular advice and information.SINGLE TRAVELLERS When booking more than 75 days prior to departure, single travellers on Fully Inclusive Classic Tours may avoid paying the Single Hotel Room Option by opting to travel on a ‘willing to share’ basis. Wendy Wu Tours will endeavour to match a single traveller with another suitable single traveller of the same gender. In the event that we are unable to confirm a share partner, Wendy Wu Tours will confirm a single room at all hotel accommodation and waive the Single Hotel Room Option. Single Cruise Cabin Option fees are applicable for any cruise component and cannot be waived. Due to rail booking regulations, sole use of overnight soft sleeper compartments on rail journeys is no longer available on group tours in China. The ‘willing to share’ option is not available on Deluxe Tours. TIPPING Tipping is a firm and expected element in the tourism industry today. The nominated tipping amount is to be given to your National Escort/Local Guide at the beginning of your group tour upon arrival at your destination and they will do all necessary tipping on your behalf throughout your tour. Participation in the tipping scheme is a necessary component of travelling on our Fully Inclusive Classic Tours and Deluxe Tours. The amount payable for each group tour is shown in the tour price based on a minimum of 10 passengers travelling. Wendy Wu Tours will advise the exact amount required per person in each currency in your final documentation. Tipping amounts will range from US$45 to US$155 per person

based on the tour itinerary and length and are subject to change at any time. Victoria Cruises, Yangzi Explorer and President Cruises have a compulsory service levy which is paid in Chinese Yuan (RMB) immediately upon boarding the cruise. The amount payable is included in the package price for group tours and independent itineraries which include a cruise. Tipping for independent travel is not compulsory and is at the customers’ own discretion. However, independent guides and drivers do expect a tip where good service has been provided and as such we will provide you with appropriate estimates based on the duration of your arrangements. SHOPPING Shopping can be fun and entertaining, especially in local markets, where many copies of international brand names can be purchased for next to nothing. However, Wendy Wu Tours, its staff and employees are neither qualified nor permitted to ensure or guarantee the quality or value of any goods purchased or the suitability of any retail outlets visited and the security of using a credit card to purchase such goods. In all cases the purchasing of goods and the use of a credit card for those transactions is entirely at the customer’s own risk and at all times the customer must use their own discretion.LOCAL EVENTS Certain attractions may be closed by the Chinese government authorities at any given time, often without reasonable notice. Such closures may impact the ability to visit such attractions during your tour. Wendy Wu Tours will do their utmost to provide advance notice in these circumstances, however such closures are out of our control. Alternative touring will be arranged should this occur. Golden Week public holidays fall annually between 1-3 May and 1-7 October. Celebrations last for several days and during this time some businesses will be closed and coach, air and train travel may be affected. Tourist attractions will be open, but may be crowded.RESPONSIBILITY Wendy Wu Tours (herewith called the Company) acts as a co-ordinator for all persons taking these tours in the making of all arrangements for transportation, sightseeing and hotel accommodation.
