Major EventsWe are delighted to offer a wide range of performance opportunities at Wenona. Both small scale and larger scale productions occur throughout the year. Aside from competitions such as the Junior School Music Awards, we offer a range of Ensembles Concerts and Choral performances which showcase our music ensembles and choirs. The girls can also audition for School Musical productions (Senior and Junior held in alternate years), and a bi-annual Rock Concert and Drama Production. Those involved in Dance at Wenona have an opportunity to showcase their skills at the Dance Concert and students taking private lessons in Drama and Speech, or Music, are also offered performance opportunities in the form of Studio Concerts twice a year.

Performing Arts

Welcome to Performing Arts at Wenona, where your daughter can experience an extensive, inclusive and dynamic Performing Arts co-curricular and extra- curricular program across Music, Drama and Dance.

DramaCo-curricular opportunities for students of Drama include a bi-annual Co-curric-ular Drama Production, and Inter-House Drama, which features Theatresports workshops, performances and other drama productions. These activities are fully embraced by the girls and culminate in the Inter-House Drama Competition held at the end of Term 1 each year.

At Wenona, the expectation is that students work together as an ensemble, and the more advanced performers support their peers in the core ensembles and choirs, so our beginner and intermediate performers learn from those who are more advanced. Those players or singers who show aptitude for their area of expertise are then encouraged to audition for specialist ensembles and choirs. We always appreciate the support of parents in these expectations as this will greatly benefit the co-curricular program for all students, while devel-oping their ensemble skills and appreciation of teamwork.

In Dance, we offer Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Funk and Contemporary classes at Open and Eisteddfod level classes. Students can learn for fun or choose to audition for one of the competitive troupes. Open classes run for Kinder-garten to Year 12, with the Eisteddfod program opportunities starting from Year 4. All Dance Students feature in the Annual Dance Concert held in the Concourse Theatre in Chatswood at the end of Term 3.

Extra-curricular Performing ArtsExtra-curricular activities are offered in Dance, Drama Group classes, private and paired Drama and Speech lessons, and individual Music lessons. All activities are run by fully qualified tutors and most extra-curricular activities are offered from Kindergarten to Year 12.

In Drama, we offer after-school group lessons for students from Year 1 to Year 10. These groups run after school and develop a wide range of theatrical skills through Theatresports, play building and other drama-based activities. These students have the opportunity to display their skills in open classroom settings, twice a year.

In Music, students have the opportunity to take lessons in a wide range of instruments in brass, percussion, strings, woodwind and voice. They may choose to take AMEB examinations or play for their own enjoyment and fun. For some Junior students, these lessons can be undertaken as an extension of the Junior Instrumental Classroom program, accelerating their studies and providing further technical and musical extension. Senior students who are studying Elective Music complement their Performance program with support from our tutors. Students perform at Studio Concerts each semester in order to present their repertoire and develop their confidence on stage.

In Drama and Speech, students can enrol for extra-curricular individual or paired lessons, and can choose to undertake Trinity College London Examinations, held onsite towards the end of Term 4 each year. There are numerous avenues to extend girls into public speaking, developing confidence in presenting, as well as poetry, musical theatre, drama and communication skills that can support a student in their academic studies.
