From the Principal.. We were treated to an entertaining Mother’s Day Raffle draw at the Monday morning assembly on the 14

additionally pleasing in that so many members of our community were prize winners. I hope you are enjoying those wonderful hampers! Stage 2 PSSA Futsal

Stage Two participated in the PSSA Futsal Gala Day on Friday the 18th of May. 31 keen and enthusiastic young futsal players turned up bright and early at school to catch the bus to Katoomba Aquatic Centre. With plenty of time before kick-off, Wenty decided to intimidate our arriving opposition by running through a series of warm up drills prior to the official kick off. Our teams played their hardest and fairest for a combined total of 25 games in one day! Our Year 3 and 4 boys played well in their games and both came third in their respective age pools. The Year 3 and 4 girls teams both made it into their grand finals and played really well to finish runner-ups for the day. Great fun was had by all and Wenty should be proud to win the self-appointed "Best cheer squad award". Josh McGrath, Stage 2 Futsal Coordinator/enthusiast

Local History Walk to THE SANDPATCH,

Wentworth falls

Captain Murray Captain James Somerville Murray lived in the 1800s. Year 2 went on an excursion to Jamison Valley and then we went to Sandpatch in Wentworth Falls where Captain Murray’s family had lived. Rosalie

The Sandpatch Last Wednesday we went on an excursion to Sandpatch. We went as soon as we could. On the way we saw Hannah’s house. It used to be a tea room. We went down to Jamison Valley lookout and saw the Went-worth Falls. When we got there we did some activities. Here are some that we did: museum, artefacts and the well. Ida

History Walk It was a sunny day and cold, and there was a lot of people, we went to the Jamison look-out. Then we went to Sandpatch and looked at a horse stable, looked at a well and we dug artefacts. Clinton

Captain Murray – Lilla Murray The glorious days of Captain James Somerville Murray. Born in the early 1800s. When he was 18 or 15 that's when his story began. In 2018 I went on an excursion. In the morning last Wednesday Year 1 and Year 2 walked with their clas-ses. The first stop was my best friend's house. It was a tearoom! Then we walked to the Jamison Valley. It was as beautiful as a butterfly! The Princes from England saw it as well! Next stop Sandpatch! We most enjoyed Sandpatch, because we learned a lot about Captain James Sommer-ville Murray and Lilla Murray (Captain James Somerville Murray wife) it was the most fun I have had in ages!

The Story Walk In the morning we went down past Jamison Valley. We went with 12PS and 2M. We were going to the Sandpatch. We did a few activities. I found the biggest object in the treasure hunt. At lunchtime we had yummy scones with runny cream and jam. After lunch time we walk down Falls Road into the school and went home. Douglas

When we went to ‘Murray’s House’ we went to the lookout first. When we walked to sandpatch we did some activ-ities to learn about Captain Murray and his fami-ly. I liked looking at the brick well and the melted glass and bottles. Ewen

A very special thanks to the many parents who escorted Stage 1 students on our history walk. The children appreciate more than you realise the extra adults who show such a keen interest in their learning!

Stage 1 students and teachers especially thank Mrs and Mr Salins, and Mr and Mrs Partington (senior) for guiding our learning at Sandpatch. Year 2 were lucky to have a talk from Mrs Buckland, your home’s history sounds a treat

P & C NEWS

Fundraising update It definitely feels like the P & C has been very busy with fundraising so far this term – we have been wrapping up the fun run money and prizes, we have new convenors in the canteen, there was the Mothers’ Day stall and raffle and then the disco. We have even sold lemons, limes and rhubarb from the school garden. Very many people to thank – David Roberts for working without elves to package up all the fun run prizes, Nina Tuason and her bunch of vollies for the jars and stall, Michelle Doake for the amazing Mothers’ Day raffle and Nat O’Conner, David Roberts, Vera Wong and the many, many parents who pitched in to make the disco a rocking success. The disco raised $3000, the Mother’s Day stall made $980 and the Mother’s Day Raffle made $1271.50 – report follows. At the P & C we like to spend money just about as much as we like to raise it – perhaps a little more. If you missed the last P & C meeting the news is: we have approved a new high quality PA system for the pebblecrete so not only will everyone be able to hear what is said at assemblies but we will also have the capacity to mic student performance and even Artfest bands. We approved a new set of ipads for Stage 1 and new film making equipment for Stage 2 to use for their Films by the Falls festival entries. We are also buying a set of permanent soccer goals for the field and a temporary set too. Finally, the P & C has approved new shelving and new furniture for our fabulous library (Mrs Halse is going to have more than a few retail therapy credits up her sleeve once she’s done her purchasing). And so for the rest term P & C business gets back to its normal more manageable steady hum of running the canteen and cafe, pulling out weeds, selling uniforms and whatever else David Roberts gets up to - unless you are one of the wonder-ful people who has joined the Artfest Committee whose organising wheels have just begun to turn for the year…

Mothers’ Day Stall and Raffle Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Mothers’ Day Stall a great success! The first thank you must be given to all the families who brought jars back to school to fill. We had over 150 jars returned to school this year! Every jar brought back is money saved for the next stall and less waste going to landfill. We have a lot to be proud of! There are many individuals to be thanked for making the stall possible, but we need to start by thanking Nina Tuason who is the inspiration and motivating force behind our school’s unique Mother’s days jars. Thank you to Elise Okunew for counting up all the money, writing on all the extra raffle tickets and separating out the money for the raffle and the jars. It was an enormous amount of work. We recycle as many jars as we can, but because many never make it back to school we do have to buy new ones. Once again we have Jason and Monique Cronshaw to thank for picking up the new jars from the city. A special mention must also be given to Fiona Gibson and Nicole Jack for recycling over 60 jars between them!

316 jars were filled and decorated over 3 days by a wonderful group of women. Thank you to Monique Cronshaw, Jo Griffith, Naumi Hogan, Kate Holden, Fenny James, Neige Manwaring, Philippa Matthews, Sandie Naumann, Simone Poulter, Michi Sparks and Jo Stewart.

The next job was transporting all the jars to school and selling them, and for this we need to thank: Sarah Buckland, Monique Cronshaw, Erica Gander, Agnes Ivony, Nicole Jack, Keris Macarthur, Renee Miller, Elise Okunew, Simone Poulter, Sally Shargorodsky, Jo Stewart, Lloyd Swanton, and David Roberts for providing the music to make the stall even more lively! We also need to thank Amanda Pole for donating the lavender oil for the bath salts, Jane Cleary for making templates for cutting the fabric, and David Mellor from D’vine Cellars and Serene Dirani from Falls Food Hall for all the boxes we collected to transport the jars to school. We still have 50 jars that will be sold at Open Day and other days, but so far the Mothers’ Day jars have made $980.62 for our school. We must also put out an ENORMOUS thank you to Michelle Doake for organising the Mothers’ Day Raffle this year. The raffle raised $1271.50. The seven raffle prize winners were (in prize order): Danielle Kistan, Gwenda French, Julie Guyer, Stephanie Peitsch, Sandie Naumann, Beth Champion and Sarah Elliott. Hope the prize winning mum’s are enjoying those prizes because you all much deserve them.

Thanks again to the many business that supported the raffle: The Grandview Hotel, Season Sushi, D’Vine Cel-

lars, Kate’s Just Gorgeous, Lily’s Pad, Schwartz’s Bakery, Lash Drama, United Cinemas, Big W (McKenzie

Lawyers), Dillinger’s Nursery, Blue Mountains Food Co-op, Home Hardware and Maprang Thai. There are

also items from it’s the little things, Fish and Fowl, Jo’s Pop Culture, Quidditas, Megalong Books, Paper Ele-

phant, Lauren Halse, Vera Wong, Zoe Field, Karen Louis, Annie Partington, Josephan’s Fine Chocolates,

Home Hardware, Blue Mountains Ugg Boots, Gingham and Wax, Gifts-N-Things and Big W. Heathercote

and Ivory soaps, organic teas, bodum cups, IKOU oil burner, cake stand, Blind Tiger Organic Gin from Leura

Cellars, WFPS Art Cards and more.
