2019 // No: 1 contemporarysalons.com It was a busy February for the Contemporary Art Team. On Sunday 17th, Phillip Joseph from our Guisborough salon joined the backstage team at London Fashion Week (right and below right). Styling for celeb favourite Erdem as part of the L’Oreal Professionnel team, the brief was to create looks inspired by Hitchcock muse Tippi Hedren. Hair was teased into high, sculptural twists with exaggerated elongation through the back – a ‘sci-fi’ take on the beehive. The key product was Tecni. Art Savage Panache Powder Spray to achieve the grit and structure required by the style. FIVE STARS! At Contemporary, we’re very proud of our colouring expertise, so we were excited to learn that we have once again made the semi-finals of the prestigious L’Oreal Colour Trophy with not one, but FIVE entries! Three teams from Guisborough have been shortlisted, alongside a team from Stokesley and one from Harrogate. Now, we’ll each compete at the North Eastern finals on April 1st where we’ll recreate our nominated looks on a live model. We’ve been lucky enough to enjoy huge success at the competition in previous years, so fingers crossed for the next stage! Sunday 3rd February saw all of Contemporary come together for our annual celebration evening. Held at Grade 1 listed Acklam Hall, staff were treated to a Champagne reception before a brief presentation celebrating the successes of 2018. Newly qualified colour ambassadors were presented with their certificates from L’Oreal Professionnel and Lily Hart from Stockton was promoted from Assistant to Stylist. After a delicious three-course meal, guests danced the night away at the after party!

Professional care Keep your coloured hair vibrant and glossy by investing in professional care products specifically created to lock-in your shade for longer. L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Color A Ox is our favourite, packed with anti-oxidants and UV filters to ward off environmental aggressors and maintain that freshly-coloured appearance. Available to purchase in salon at Contemporary, please ask our team for their recommendations on products to suit your individual style.

Whether you’re looking to achieve a catwalk-inspired finish or just want products that deliver on results every time, you can’t go wrong with the L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni.Art range. Developed by hair stylists and loved backstage at fashion week, there are now some innovative new additions to the line. Ring Light Pure is the first micro-dispersed professional high shine spray, for the lightest yet glossiest ring-light effect – layer over any style for a wet glazed finish. Or try Transformer – available in a gel or lotion formula, these clever products have a texture that ‘mutates’ depending on how you use them, making them super-versatile for all hair types.

Celebrating – the Contemporary way!

Style essentials

Take it on the chinMs Lipa has been on our radar for a while but we think 2019 will be all about the Dua ‘do. Cut just below the chin and worn impossibly sleek and centre-parted, we’ve also spotted a similar bob on supermodel Irina Shayk. It’s a more polished finish than the tousled Lobs that have dominated our Insta feeds and we’re definitely here for that.

Ready, steady, blowAfter several seasons of ‘undone’ hair, this Spring/Summer sees a return to the blow-dry. Whether you go for a straight, wavy or curled finish, hair should look sleeker and more polished. Luxe finishes require healthy hair, so see off any split ends with a decent trim. And when it comes to styling, nothing beats a professional finish – a blow-dry at Contemporary starts from £22 and if looked after, will last up to five days.

Muted palettesColour for this season is mostly more subtle and pared back than in previous seasons. Grey and pink shades take on a smokier, more sophisticated tone that adds depth and dimension to the hair. Blondes and redheads go multi-tonal, with shades seamlessly blended to give hair a rich, luxurious finish. But brunettes are a little bolder – there’s a move away from the classic ombré palette and instead, ends are paintbox bright – think royal blue, bubblegum pink or warm plum.
