Should all dancers wish to have their own certificate an additional R5,00 must be paid by each of the dancers to cover the costs of certificates and seals.

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL CATEGORIES Adjudication will be done according to category.

1. ADJUDICATORS : The Eisteddfod Committee shall have the power to appoint Adjudicators in place of any who are unable to attend, and to appoint additional Adjudicators wherever necessary. No Adjudicator shall be allowed to compete in any class, nor shall any pupils or professional colleagues of the Adjudicator compete in any class of which he or she is an Adjudicator. Where there is more than one Adjudicator, each will write his or her report separately.

2. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ADJUDICATORS’ DECISION IS FINAL . No parent, teacher or participant may engage in conversation with the Adjudicator prior to or during sessions.

3. Costumes , hairstyle, make-up and shoes: must match the dance.4. MUSIC : On CD must be posted or delivered to Rethea Kotzee (PO Box 1174,

Langebaan, 7357) no later than one week before the Eisteddfod. Music will be loaded onto a computer (and played from the computer) as per the programme for the day of the Eisteddfod. Please mark each cut of music on the CD clearly with the name of the dancer, name of the dance and the category. E.g. 1. Susan Smith, Cinderella, Ballet solo 9-10. (Abbreviations may be used as stipulated in the rule book pg 4-7). This is important for the smooth running of the programme on the day. No cell phones with music on will be allowed. The music must be cut to the required length on the CD. If the music needs to fade out, it must be recorded as such on the CD. It will not be the responsibility of the music player to fade music for any dancer. All CDs will be returned to teachers on the day of the Eisteddfod.

5. No set syllabi or set exam dances will be allowed. Choreography must be the teacher’s own work. Syllabus (set) dances are copy righted and may not be used.

6. Dancers must be ready to dance 30 minutes before the commencement of the category in which they are entered.

7. The dancer’s Participation slip must be handed in to the announcer 30 minutes before her/his dance.

8. The teacher is responsible for ensuring that the pupil is on stage at the commencement of the section.

9. A Dancer may dance in a higher age group but not in a lower age group.10.No teacher may be near or on stage during the Improvisation category.11.The teacher and one helper do not pay the entry fee. Everyone else pays the

entry fee. Dance entrants do not pay at the door. They have already paid their entry fee. All other visitors pay the entrance fee at the door.

12.A Novice dancer is one who has never won a Gold or Cum Laude for a solo dance.Amateur status

13.A dancer becomes an Amateur when he/she has won Gold or Cum Laude in a section. If for example he/she has won gold in a Ballet section but not in a Modern section, then he/she will become and Amateur for the Ballet section

but will stay Novice for the Modern section the following year. Age groups 5-6 and 7-8 only dance in novice sections. There is no Amateur status until age 9.

14.An entrant’s age shall be as on 1 January of that year.15.Please indicate on the entry form the number of dancers in small and big

groups. See example on entry form.16.There will be no refunds for any dancers who do not pitch for their dance

categories.17.No late entries will be accepted.18.Complaints must be in writing and faxed or emailed to Wes-Boland

Eisteddfod within 24 hours. Incidents will not be attended to during proceedings.

19.Prize winners may be asked to perform at the Prestige evening without compensation and must be available on the specific date.

CONTEMPORARYContemporary dances should include technique as in Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham and Lester Horton techniques, i.e. work should demonstrate an understanding of specific contemporary elements such as contraction and release, fall and recovery from floor, T-lines, stag positions, coccyx balance, lateral stretches, primitive squats, release swings, leg swings and deep lunges, etc.

IMPROVISATION The Adjudicator selects a piece of music, which is played twice to each competitor, who must then improvise a dance suitable to the music. These are solo dances only in any of the categories. Specify which category the dancer is entering for on the entry form in order for the adjudicator to choose a suitable piece of music, e.g. IMPB (meaning Improvisation Ballet)

YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERSThis is your opportunity to show your choreographic talents, dance to your choice of music and decide on your own costumes. Your choreography can be ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop, contemporary or any other style of dance that is your passion. (If you are not able to get the costume that you want (due to costs or whatever problem you face) just draw the costume that you would have liked and it will be presented to the judge before your item).NB: THIS MUST BE THE DANCER’S OWN WORK.
