Miracles are all around us for sure. I drove to Whiting last week to visit the Pleasant View care facility. It

was a beautiful drive featuring a “HIGHER Definition” of autumn colors that only the good Lord can

provide. No human technological invention can ever compete with the glory of God reflected in nature.

Also, there are the “supernatural” miracles that happen to surprise and remind us, that when faced with

circumstances beyond our abilities, God’s presence, power and peace is always just a prayer away. I feel

our Harvest Celebration on October 15 was of that order. It was a trial run of sorts. We had hoped it

would be something so much greater than a rubber-stamp of reports and forms to vote on, and it was.

There were many miracles to celebrate: Attendance was greater. Last year we had about five people attend

an offsite cluster conference with other Sioux City UMCs; this year we had about 85 attend our own Wes-

ley worship and vision casting event. The music was inspiring. The testimonies of past ministry victories

were encouraging. The 2018 “Next Step” Goals revealed a willingness to stretch beyond ourselves where

we MUST TRUST GOD IN FAITH to fulfill all he is calling us to do. (We have more copies of

these Goals, Vision and a 2018 Harvest Celebration ministry information packet available at the entrance

of our sanctuary.)

Beth and I thank God for YOU and your part of what is unfolding here at Wesley. Each of YOU are a

part of a miracle that God is revealing step by step and day by day. I want to encourage YOU to keep

pressing on in good faith. Currently there are “Daring Faith” groups meeting on Sundays

(10 A.M. in the chapel between services, 5 P.M. at Brian and Kathy Gross-Edelman’s home) and on

Wednesday nights at 7:30 P.M. here at the church. It is only for six weeks. It features a devotional guide

and video by Rick Warren. I promise, if you genuinely embrace this opportunity YOU WILL GROW A

GREATER FAITH and see GREATER MIRACLES! It is not too late to just step into a group – even

midstream, YOU will be blessed.

Also, throughout the month of November we encourage one simple step to greatly increase your faith. It

states in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of

Christ.” In Jesus day, they didn’t have the scriptures in Bible (book) form. They heard the Word of Christ

shared by way of preaching. Today we have many Bibles for us to meditate on Jesus - informing us how to

become like him – living with great faith. SO, we are encouraging everyone to read the whole

New Testament in November. (See the reading schedule enclosed.) Let’s do this together and

watch us GROW to a higher yielding faith!

Faith is a verb, an action. On Sunday November 5, the Servant Leadership Team wants to help equip

your next steps of faith by helping you discern your spiritual gifts and how they might actively be used in

the collective ministry here. PLEASE see the notice in this newsletter on the Spiritual Gifts Assessment

and take action!

Surviving the Holidays Seminar Help and Hope as you navigate the Christmas Season Wondering how you will survive the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas? Are you dreading these holidays, knowing that everything has changed and that happy memories from past years can’t be recreated? The Surviving the Holidays seminar is especially for people who are grieving a loved one’s death. We’ll learn how to deal with the many emotions we’ll face during the holidays, what to do about traditions and other coming changes, helpful tips for surviving social events, and how to discover hope for the future. The seminar will take place on November 16, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Beth Schlitter is looking for others to attend the event with her. The group will leave from the Wesley parking lot at 6:00pm and car pool to Sioux Center. Please let Beth know if you’d like to go. Beth Schlitter 712-899-4629 [email protected]

Ever wonder how you can best serve God and Wesley United Methodist Church? Find out Sunday, November 5 during Fellowship time as the Servant Leadership Team (formerly Lay Leadership Team) offers

a Spiritual Gifts Assessment in the Family Life Center. You can grab a cup of coffee and a doughnut to complete the assessment or take it home to complete. Also, a classroom will be available if you would like a quiet space to complete the assessment. Members of the team will then score the assessment and go over

the results with you. Mary Green-Warnstadt

November 26th

November 5th

Also on November 5, we encourage all our Confirmation

Class and mentors to join us for worship at the second service

and then we will have pizza for lunch at Wesley. After lunch we will

take a short fieldtrip experience to Trinity Heights here in Sioux City.

It is a Siouxland favorite that features beautiful monuments and

points of scriptural meditation. They have a life-size woodcarving of

the Last Super. Please bring $5 to help with expenses.

Soon we will make our annual pledge cards available to fill out, and then on November 19, we

will dedicate them to the Lord. We will seek to take next steps of growth in committing all our time,

talent, and treasures to reflect greater steps of faith. Pray that our fellowship will see a larger vision—

seeing God’s great call to transform lives in Siouxland and beyond through the ministry of Wesley UMC.

We have so much to be thankful for! So, we encourage you and your family to join us, Tuesday,

November 21 at 7:00 P.M. for a Thanksgiving Service called “Praise & Pies”. It is

simply delicious! Sweet are the Lord’s blessings so we will sing praises celebrating the joyous life in Him.

And sweet are the pies – many talented bakers in our fellowship will share of their bounty as we share

together in fellowship. Join us! Blessings! Todd and Beth

Don’t miss out on what could be because you can’t let go of what was.

Annual Pie and Baked

Goods Auctions

November 5th, 12th and 19th

$5,072 – this is the amount of money raised at the Pie & Bakery Auctions in 2016! This number could also be the number of extra calories consumed when you purchase a special treat from the Pie & Bakery Auctions. The annual Pie & Bakery Auctions are always a fun event for the entire congregation and a great fund-raiser for Wesley.

Mark your calendars and taste buds for this fun and tasty event that will be held during the fellowship time on November 5, 12 and 19. The Servant Leadership Team will be doing an activity during the fellowship time on November 5th so the auction on November 5th will be a blind auction. The auctioneers this year will be some of the big personalities in our Wes-ley family.

Both bakers and buyers are necessary for this event to be successful. There are sign-up sheets in the entryway outside the sanctuary and in the gym. You can also call or text Jackie Nohr at 281-1900 or e-mail her at [email protected] to let her know what items you would like to bring for the auction. Please consider sharing one of your special baked goods with Wesley. Bakers don’t have to be professionals – family recipes are always a favorite as well as unique and specialty items. Some items will be sold whole and there will also be individual size servings available.

Not only is this event a lot of fun and delicious, it has been a very good fund raiser for Wesley in the past.

Wesley’s Winter Weather Policy:

Church services will be cancelled in the event the Sioux City Police Department advises no travel. During the weekdays, if the Sioux City School District cancels school or has an early release due to bad weather, all Wesley activities for that day will be cancelled. Late starts by the school district will not affect activities scheduled at Wesley. If a question arises, the Pastor will consult with the Admin Council Chair. If the Admin Chair is unavailable, the Chair of Trustees will be contacted; if the Trustees Chair is unavailable, then Kevin Arends will be contacted. We will notify the local television stations (and their websites) and request cancellation announcements if Wesley activities are cancelled.

Have you included Wesley United Methodist Church Endowment Fund

in your estate plan?

If your answer is yes, can you please let us know?

We first want to thank you, then we want to assure you that Wesley is

prepared to be a good steward of your gift.

Please inform us of your plan to include us by contacting Dennis Wurster

at 251-2037, Kim Kletschke at 253-2866 or Larry Atwood at 251-0710.

Contact Mary Campbell to volunteer

Ph. 712-255-3026

I've just taken the giant step of completing the form requested from the Texas Annual Conference to bring a team to help in recovery from Hurricane Harvey. I have no idea of the exact location of this proposed Volunteers in Mission trip, nor all of the details, but here's what I do have. (I feel called to this...) I envision an intergenerational team (young adult and older) of 12 to 16 people to leave Sioux City on Tuesday, December 26th, a two-day drive to South Texas, and leaving Texas on January 5th to return to Sioux City on Saturday, January 6, 2018. It would be wonderful to have a few skilled (carpentry and such) people, some able-bodied people, some good listeners, a few good cooks, a few good shoppers, a couple of navigators, and a whole bunch of people who care enough to put hands, feet, and heart to a hurting situation. Prerequisites: A generous spirit and good sense of humor. Will it cost you something? Yes. I do not have an exact estimate yet but am guessing in the $350/person range. Some scholarship funds will be available, and of course, we'll attempt a fundraiser. (Please don't let financial challenges deter you!) Please feel free to share this information with those you think might be interested in the possibility and of course send questions my way! Blessings, Kathy Martin

Wesley’s Media Project

Phase Two

In 2009 a plan was developed and approved to modernize our sanctuary’s technology. A funding account was established and members began funding the technology vision for our Sanctuary. In 2014 the project was bid out and was then split into several segments due to the cost. Phase One began which included enhancing the sound in the sanctuary and building out the media room. Wesley has continued to support this vision and we believe we are ready to gear up for Phase 2 of this project. Our goal in Phase 2 is to enhance the worship experience by improving the visual aspects in our sanctuary. What does that mean for you? Slides and video being shown on the front wall will be higher quality and easier to see. We will have the ability to play on the screen video from the camera. So if you prefer the back rows for worship and wondered what you are missing when the kids are up front, you will be able to see it on the screen. We will have a projection system on the back wall so all of our worship leaders will see the same thing you are seeing on the front wall. One bank of lights will be added to illuminate the front area where Pastor Todd delivers his message. Our nursery attendant hasn’t seen many Sunday services in over 10 years so the addition of a TV in that classroom will

now make that possible. An item that has been added to this project is to replace the adult chairs in the Christian Ed rooms. The chairs we have now were purchased used over 15 years ago, they are falling apart and are unsafe. The project has been bid out and the cost is projected to be $40,000. Currently we have $17,430 collected for Phase 2. To make this a reality we need an additional $22,570. How can you help? Pray!! Pray for God’s blessings on this project. Prayerfully consider giving a gift in addition to your regular offering. If a one time gift does not work in your budget, consider pledging to make payments in 2018 and 2019 when we do our Stewardship Campaign. If you feel called to make an extra gift above your offering, please mark on your check “Media” so it can be credited to this project. If you have already given to this project, thank you!! For those of you praying on “Stepping Up” and making this a reality, thank you! Every gift gets us one ‘Step’ closer! Kim Kletschke

We are going to begin

Christmas

Program later this month. We

will be rehearsing

during the Sunday School hour after the

Bible lesson.

Dear Members & Friends of Wesley UMC:

On November 5th, All Saints Sunday, we will be honoring the memory of those loved ones associated with our fellowship who have passed on since this time last year. If you have a family member who has passed on in the last 12 months and would like their name included, please contact Judy at the church office: 712-239-2382 or [email protected] by November 2

nd before Noon.

If you have a loved one who has passed on and are able to attend we request that at the appropriate time during the service, when your loved one’s name is read, you or a representative from your family stand. We will light a candle in honor of their memory. Also, if you would like, we could place a digital picture of your loved one on the screen when their name is being read. All we would ask is that all pictures be sent as an attachment to: [email protected] or [email protected] or delivered to the church office in person.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Judy at the church office: 712-239-2382
