It is our pleasure to welcome you and your family to the West Carroll family where we pride ourselves as being “Student-Centered, Community Supported” in beautiful Carroll County. West Carroll is home to the communities of Mount Carroll, Thomson, and Savanna, Illinois and their surrounding rural areas. West Carroll houses approximately 1,000 students in four buildings as follows: Preschool through fifth grade at West Carroll Primary School in Savanna; sixth through eighth grade in Mount Carroll at West Carroll Middle School and ninth through twelfth grade in Savanna as West Carroll High School. The West Carroll School District is also the administrative agent for the Carroll County Preschool program. The West Carroll District’s Business Office is located in Mount Carroll.

Mount Carroll is the hub of the county by being home to the Carroll County Courthouse. Within the district, several economic employers may be found including, Neumiller Farms (Home of Lay’s Potato Chips), Metform division of MacLean-Fogg Component Solutions (supplier of forgings, fasteners and machined parts, was recognized with an Excellent Quality award from Toyota Motor North America, Inc.), Elkay Manufacturing (American-owned and operated manufacturer of drinking fountains and bottle filling stations), and AUSP Thomson. In the West Carroll School District you will also find health care from two different providers, Freeport Health Network office in Savanna and Sterling’s Community General Hospital (CGH) satellite office in Mount Carroll. Our students form partnerships with our local businesses to gain dual credit college coursework credits, job shadowing experiences, and real-world problem-based learning experiences.

In the West Carroll School District, you will find a wealth of enjoyment boating on the Mississippi River, hiking and camping at Palisades State Park, and amazing shows at Timber Lake Playhouse. Due to these local experiences, we have an outstanding state-winning music program in both choir and band. West Carroll High School hosts several athletic teams, including football, golf, volleyball, academic bowl, cheerleading, wrestling, basketball, track, and cross-country. Golfing for the family is available in both Thomson and Savanna as well as a movie theater in Savanna across from the well-known Manny’s Pizza Saloon. The West Carroll family is fortunate to have so many opportunities to enjoy.

Our schools are top notch in safety. All schools are equipped with Blue Point police security systems and all district staff have been trained in ASIST (Active Shooter Incident Survival Training) along with CPI (non-violent crisis prevention institute).

All students in grades 2-12 receive chromebooks annually to use in and out of the classroom. All classrooms are equipped with SMARTboard equipment including SMART televisions, boards, and interactive assessment features. Students use Skyward and Schoology as a Learning Management System to submit assignments and interact with their teachers. Students and staff continually set goals for themselves and believe in a growth mindset for success.
