We invite you to enjoy our diverse nature and agriculture experiences. Our Shire encompasses 9,200 square kilometres from the Big Desert Wilderness in the north, down through the unique Little Desert National Park and Lake Charlegrark, then onto the Glenelg River in the south. The Shire’s western boundary is the South Australia-Victoria border which runs along the great 4WD Border Track. The south is dotted with stately Red Gums and about 3,000 wetlands, which allows us to claim the title of “Shire of Lakes”.
As you read this guide, we will give you a glimpse of life in our country towns and villages, then take you on a journey through the unique natural attractions of our wetlands, deserts and life in rural communities.
Our Shire is perfect for a diverse tourism experience; nature based, site seeing, relaxing with friendly folk, enjoying local produce or a 4WD adventure. Whether your visit is for relaxation, sightseeing or adventure, West Wimmera ticks every box for an enjoyable stay.
Welcome to West Wimmera...
