Western Cape Construction Woman of the Year Award “On 4 July this year I announced a new initiative to make it easier for women to enter the construction industry in the Western Cape. The construction industry has traditionally been seen as the domain of men, but we want to change that by specifically targeting women for certain projects worth millions of rands over the next three years. I have also instructed my Department to develop and implement a blueprint for the participation and growth of women contractors in the Western Cape. Let’s level the playing fields. Together let’s build a better home for all! “In line with this initiative the Department has initiated an annual Western Cape Construction Woman of the Year Award to recognize exceptional achievements by women in this field. This Award will be given to women in three categories, namely those who own or partially own small, medium or large companies. The awards will be handed over at a gala dinner during a Summit on Women in Construction which will be held on 21 August 2006 in the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
