1 Peter 2 King James Version (KJV) Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
1 Peter 2 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) for study purposes only
The Living Stone and the Holy Nation
2 So then, stop doing anything to hurt others. Don’t lie anymore, and stop trying to fool people. Don’t be jealous or say bad things about others. 2 Like newborn babies hungry for milk, you should want the pure teaching that feeds your spirit. With it you can grow up and be saved. 3 You have already tasted the goodness of the Lord.4 The Lord Jesus is the living stone.[a] The people of the world decided that they did not want this stone. But he is the one God chose as one of great value. So come to him. 5 You also are like living stones, and God is using you to build a spiritual house.[b] You are to serve God in this house as holy priests, offering him spiritual sacrifices that he will accept because of Jesus Christ. 6 The Scriptures say,“Look, I have chosen a cornerstone of great value, and I put that stone in Zion. Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.” 7 So, that stone brings honor for you who believe. But for those who don’t believe he is“the stone that the builders refused to accept, which became the most important stone.” 8 For them he is also“a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes people fall.” People stumble because they don’t obey what God says. This is what God planned to happen to those people.9 But you are his chosen people, the King’s priests. You are a holy nation, people who belong to God. He chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He brought you out of the darkness of sin into his wonderful light.10 In the past you were not a special people, but now you are God’s people. Once you had not received mercy, but now God has given you his mercy.[c]
Live for God
11 Dear friends, you are like visitors and strangers in this world. So I beg you to keep your lives free from the evil things you want to do, those desires that fight against your true selves. 12 People who don’t believe are living all around you. They may say that you are doing wrong. So live such good lives that they will see the good you do, and they will give glory to God on the day he comes.
Obey Every Human Authority
13 Be willing to serve the people who have authority[d] in this world. Do this for the Lord. Obey the king, the highest authority. 14 And obey the leaders who are sent by the king. They are sent to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do good. 15 When you do good, you stop ignorant people from saying foolish things about you. This is what God wants. 16 Live like free people, but don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as those who are serving God. 17 Show respect for all people. Love your brothers and sisters in God’s family. Respect God, and honor the king.
The Example of Christ’s Suffering
18 Slaves, be willing to serve your masters. Do this with all respect. You should obey the masters who are good and kind, and you should obey the masters who are bad. 19 One of you might have to suffer even when you have done nothing wrong. If you think of God and bear the pain, this pleases God. 20 But if you are punished for doing wrong, there is no reason to praise you for bearing that punishment. But if you suffer for doing good and you are patient, this pleases God. 21 This is what you were chosen to do. Christ gave you an example to follow. He suffered for you. So you should do the same as he did:22 “He never sinned, and he never told a lie.” 23 People insulted him, but he did not insult them back. He suffered, but he did not threaten anyone. No, he let God take care of him. God is the one who judges rightly. 24 Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you were healed. 25 You were like sheep that went the wrong
way. But now you have come back to the Shepherd and Protector of your lives.
INTRODUCTION
The overall goal of all of activities is to train young people in Christian service.
Much has changed over the years. The Youth Department has grown to be far more than just competition. But the
purpose has not changed. The goal has always been and will continue to be ministry training. The programs and
activities of the Youth Department’s worship services, training seminars and even the competition are all geared to
help young people discover their talents, develop their skills, and dedicate their hearts for faithful service to God.
The Competition Guidelinesemphasizes the “ministry development” aspect of the competition. Effort has been
made to make the competitive activities more inclusive for new members in the youth group and to focus on real-life
ministry in the local church. We pray the competitive activities will be a useful tool to help young people gain
experience, confidence, excellence, and faithfulness in their service to God.
The Christian Education and Youth Department Staff
PURPOSE: Growing in the Lord and using one’s talents for the Lord are just two of the many reasons the Student
& Children’s Ministries promotes the competitive program for the Youth Department. The main purpose is to give
students an opportunity to become involved in active ministry and service for Jesus Christ. Through the categories
and divisions of the competitive program, opportunity is provided to develop one’s talents in Bible study, music,
communication, arts creative arts, creative writing, and media.
PLEDGE (Preamble):
The competitive activities are designed to help achieve specific goals: to develop a ministry focus among young
people; to provide a vehicle that will assist in developing the talents of young people in a wide variety of artistic
skills; to teach young people to win in competition with humility and modesty, and to lose with grace and dignity; to
help young people realize that in order to be effective servants of God, all their talents must be submitted to the
lordship of Jesus Christ.
Pledge
Desiring to participate in the competitive activities of the Youth Department, I do hereby pledge:
To accept the goals of the above PREAMBLE.
To commit myself to work hard, doing my best to develop my talents and skills, and be at my best for the
glory of my Lord Jesus Christ. To commit myself to be a Christian competitor. When I win, I will win with
humility and modesty. If I lose, I will lose with grace and dignity. My life and attitudes will bring honor to
the name of my Lord.

Conference level.
All event entry registration on all levels shall be done on the official Competition Event form (in
this document).
Conduct & Dress Code
Every aspect of the General Conference, including the competitive activities, seeks to achieve a
level of professionalism and excellence that is consistent with our goal of developing Christian
leadership and service. For this reason we strive to maintain a high standard of conduct,
appearance, and Christian testimony. This event is the highest level of activity for Free Will
Baptist students in the nation. All participating students and adults are expected to display the
utmost respect for and strict adherence to the following standards.
A. Code of Conduct
The conduct of participants is expected to meet the standards for believers in 1Timothy 4:12,
“be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in
purity.” Behavior that does not exemplify a Christian will be grounds for disqualification from
competition and/or expulsion from the conference.
B. Dress Code
While we do not equate a particular style of dress with holiness, and we do not make
judgments of character based on outward appearance, we do recognize the impact that
appearance has on behavior, testimony, and influence. The Word of God provides principles to
guide us.
Dress and appearance should be modest and promote purity (1 Timothy 2:9-10; 2
Timothy 2:22).
Dress and appearance should not reflect conformity with unholy fashions and patterns
of the world (Romans 12:1-2).
Dress and appearance should complement masculinity in men and femininity in women
(Genesis 1:27, Deuteronomy 22:5).
Dress and appearance should be appropriate to the occasion, avoid offense, and
demonstrate a respect for excellence (1 Corinthians 10:23; 1 Timothy 4:12; Philippians
1:9-10).
Dress and appearance should avoid identification with cultural groups that reject
Christian teaching. (2Corinthians 6:14-17)
It is understood that Christians may interpret these principles by varying degrees. Our intent is
not to define the only standard of Christian dress and appearance, but to uphold a standard
that is consistent with the high expectations of performance, conduct, and professionalism that
is appropriate for an event of this significance. Specific applications drawn from the principles
above include the following policies:
All clothing should fit properly: no tight pants on men or boys; pants should be worn at
the natural waist line and with a belt (no underwear exposed or shirt tails hanging out);
no tight dresses, skirts, blouses, short shorts or sweaters on ladies or girls.
Boys and men are to wear shirt, tie, and slacks (coats are optional). Tank Tops and T-
shirts are unacceptable.
Girls and ladies are to wear dresses that shall extend to the knee or longer. Dresses
must not be low cut or revealing in style or material. Tops should not expose the waist
or midriff. Dress slacks are permitted.
Boys and men shall groom their hair.
Facial piercings and body art should not be displayed.
Costumes are permitted in specific drama categories. Some flexibility is permitted in the dress
code to enable the presentation of a particular character. Use discretion to insure that
modesty is maintained. Be creative without compromising this principle. Costumes, including
denim jeans that do not meet regular Dress Code guidelines may be worn only for competition
and reasonable time before and after the event. Judges will evaluate the appropriateness of
costumes and may award points based on how well a costume fits the character and to the
degree that a particular costume is required to portray the character.
C. Worship Dress Code
Participants are expected to wear modest attire to worship services.
D. Awards Ceremony Dress Code
Participants and contestants are expected to follow the dress code to be on stage for
the Awards Ceremony (with the exception that ties are not required and polo style
shirts may be worn).
E. Penalties
Judges will deduct points for incidental dress code infractions. Flagrant violation of the
above rules, as determined by a unanimous decision of the judges, will result in the
group or individual not being allowed to compete until compliance with the dress code
is achieved.

Bible Sword Drill – King James Version – Scripture Searching Drill
Purpose of the Drill
The purpose of the Bible Sword Drill is to teach young people to handle the Word of God
effectively. It is called Bible Sword Drill because the Bible is spoken as the Christian’s sword in
Ephesians 6:17.Bible Sword Drill is a competitive activity for grades four through six. The
contest begins in the local church.
Drill Commands
1. Attention – heels together, shoulders up straight, hands at side, face the leader.
2. Assignment – The leader announces the drill. The assignment is given twice, slowly and
distinctly. (Example: Matthew chapter 4 verse 12).
3. Charge – At this command, every member of the group begins to search for the
scripture and time begins. When the passage is located, the contestant takes one step
forward. The Bible is held parallel to the floor and the correct passage marked with the
index finger. (The person stepping forward should avoid unnecessary stomping that
could distract other contestants still searching for the scripture.)
4. Time – The timekeeper allows 15 seconds before calling time. This is the signal for all to
stop searching, and the leader will ask the first person stepping forward to read the
correct scripture.
Types of Drills
1. Scripture Searching Drill – A Scripture reference is given by the leader. The contestants
must find that exact passage.
2. Unfinished Quotation Drill – The leader quotes the first part of a verse of scripture. The
contestants must know its location and turn to it in the Bible.
3. Character Drill – The name of a Bible character is given by the leader. The contestants
must find the name of that person in the Bible verse.
4. Book Drill – The name of a book in the Bible is given by the leader. Contestants must
find the book and be ready to tell which book comes before and after it.
5. Topical Drill - The leader gives a word or phrase and the contestants must find that
particular word or phrase contained in a verse of Scripture. Each may have a different
passage.
6. Doctrinal Drill – The leader asks the group to find a verse in the Bible setting forth a
specific Bible doctrine. For example, find a verse that states “faith in Christ saves”; or
find a verse that teaches “all have sinned”. The contestants must locate a specific proof
verse.
In each drill, with the exception of the book drill, the Scripture reference must be stated before
and after a verse.
Bible Bowl – King James Version
Mr. and Miss. Free Will Baptist
Purpose of the Game
The purpose of Bible Bowl is to develop the student’s ability to understand thoroughly and
quickly recall Bible knowledge, drawing from every source of instruction that the teens have
experienced. Principles of sportsmanship and fair play are also developed as the teens
compete with others from other churches.
Method of the Game
Bible Bowl is a quiz in which accurate Bible knowledge and speed of recall are tested in a
competitive atmosphere. Two opposing teams are challenged by the reading of a question,
and the team member responding first is given opportunity to answer. Questions are read
for a predetermined time period, and ten points are scored for each correct answer with
certain penalties given for an incorrect answer. The team with the highest score wins.
Rules for Bible Bowl are given below.
Quiz Panel
A. Quizmaster
Has general oversight of the contest
Explains rules and procedures
Sets the tone for a proper atmosphere
Reads the questions clearly and fairly
Determines if correct answers are given
B. Scorer
Serves under the direction of the quizmaster.
Places the names of the two competing teams on the scoreboard in the order
they are facing the audience.
Keeps a cumulative total for each team throughput the contest period.
C. Timekeeper
Serves under direction of the quizmaster.
Records the beginning time of the contest and calls time at the end of the
designated time period.
Allows fifteen seconds for an answer when a question is interrupted or has been
read through one time. Calls time at the end of the 15 seconds.
D. Judges (three)
Serve under the direction of the quizmaster.
Determine which team member responds first when mechanical aids are not
used.
Rules on correctness of any answer referred to them by the quizmaster.
Consider and rule with final authority on contested decisions or unique
circumstances that may arise during the game.
Responsible for determining compliance with entry requirements.

Exhibition Division
The purpose of the Exhibition Division is to explore opportunities to develop new ministries, to
find ways to promote existing ministries or to provide an avenue for the more physical
Christians to present their ministries. Exhibition entries will be evaluated and critiqued, but will
not receive ratings, awards, or recognition in the awards ceremony. Presentations will be
evaluated based on ministry effectiveness.
Exhibition events must be presented on the General level and evaluated for ministry
effectiveness. We welcome recommendations for events to include in the exhibition category.
There is no entry fee or offering available for exhibition events.
Exhibition Rules
1. All Exhibition entries must be presented at the General competition and be evaluated
for ministry effectiveness.
2. More than one entry in any Exhibition category may be sent if the entries are deemed
appropriate and possess a practical ministry value.
3. A time limit of five (5) minutes for each presentation will be allowed, except for
Preaching which will have a ten (10) minute time limit.
4. Group Exhibition events may include up to 10 participants. (All participants must meet
the official age requirements to be included in the presentations.)
Exhibition Categories
Preaching (Grades 12-College):
The purpose of this category is to provide an opportunity for young people who have an
interest in preaching to gain experience and instruction in sermon preparation and delivery. It
is not a preaching competition. Every contestant in the preaching category may advance to the
next level.
1. An entrant must prepare and deliver an original sermon following the announced theme
for the General conference. The presentation must be in harmony with the Free Will
Baptist Doctrine.
2. Each sermon will be reviewed on Biblical content, outline, and effective delivery, as well
as on the on the general guidelines given. Biblical Preaching: The development and
Delivery of Expository Messages, by Haddon W. Robinson, (Baker 2001) is a highly
recommended resource for preachers.
3. Sermons must include Scripture. Scripture may be read from the Bible, it does not have
to be memorized.
4. The sermon must be original material, not a recitation of someone else’s message.
Entrants are, however, permitted to use illustrations that are not from their own
personal experience (with proper recognition) as well as those from their own
experience. Direct quotations should cite the source.
5. The Sermon does not have to be memorized. The participant is allowed to use a single
4x6 index card for the sermon outline and notes.
6. Props are not to be used. A lectern will be available for the contestant to place his Bible
and note card.
7. The wearing of costumes is not permitted, however, the wearing of a suit or sport coat
is acceptable.
8. The use of audiotapes, PowerPoint, or other audio/visual devices is not permitted.
9. Time limit – 10 minutes. The format of this event is different from a formal worship
service. While prayer and an invitation are usually included in a worship service, this
will be permitted, but not as part of the presentation.
New Ministry Ideas
There are three qualifications:
1. It cannot duplicate an area of competition that already exists.
2. It cannot be an activity that is already restricted in the Competition Guidelines.
3. It must have a practical ministry application.
What ministry need exists that should be delivered.
