Over the course of 44 years, the WESTERVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COM-MERCE has worked to advance its Members’ success in business and strive to accomplish the Chamber’s vision of connecting every Business to ev-ery opportunity. I am excited for the opportunity to serve as Board Chair dur-ing2012andIlookforwardtocontinuefocusingonthemission of the Chamber, advancing our Members’ success

in business.For those who do not know me, I am President/CEO of As-

sociated Financial Services, which is a full financial service company specializing in yourbusiness and individualneeds.IamaproudgraduateofDefianceCollege,whereIobtainedaBachelor of Science in Finance and Management, with a minor in Economics. My career in the financial service industry began in1994withMerrill Lynch Investment Company. In2004, Imoved to Associated Financial Services, located in Westerville.

I reside in Lewis Center with my wife Allison and four chil-dren,Trent,Lizzie,GabbieandLexi.Ihavegreatenthusiasmforthe Westerville community. In addition to the Chamber, I sit on the Mount Carmel Foun-dation Board and attend Heritage Christian Church on Maxtown Road in Westerville.

Ongoing Events


The nation’s first municipal commu-nity data center is open for business in Westerville. The WeConnect® com-

munity data center, five years in the mak-ing, began as a vision to bring the most advanced technologies and conveniences within reach of businesses in and around the City of Wester-ville.

The center serves as a connectivity hub–ordatahotelof sorts– for localand regional busi-ness, offering world-class support for cloud computing, co-location, broadband ser-vices and server rack space and security. A carrier-neutral facility, the data center pro-videsbusinessesofallsizesaccesstothemost advanced technologies so that they can thrive locally and compete globally.

“The City has invested in a fiber back-bone that spans our corporate limits, and the data center is the physical building that makes Westerville a truly progressive community,” said Chief Information Of-ficer Todd Jackson. “It’s by choice, not chance, that Westerville can offer access to advanced infrastructure that supports our community partners and businesses.”

Constructiononthe16,000-square-footfacility was completed November 2011,with the first business moving into space the following month to take advantage of a suite of services designed to help local businesses grow. And by allowing busi-nesses to offer their own services through the data center, Westerville plans to at-tract new business to the community. It is part of the program meant to provide an edge to Westerville’s economic devel-opment efforts and bring or keep jobs in the community.

“This is an opportunity for businesses to have advantages to grow without in-creasing capital costs,” said Jason Bech-told,Westerville’sEconomicDevelopmentAdministrator. “What they save in time and money gets reinvested back into their business and benefits the community as a whole.”

ThedatacenterisbeingmanagedbyDataRecovery Services (DRS), a Youngstown,Ohio-based technology firm. The unique relationshipbetweenDRSandWesterville

maintains the City-owned infrastructure (datacenterandfiber)whiledatacenterservicesareprovidedandmanagedbyDRSand broadband services are provided by commercial carriers.

Jackson said Westerville developed a model for a data center public/private

partnership be-cause none exist-ed. The City owns the center, while DRS, a regionalprovider of data center design and

services, manages operations. “We’re excited about leveraging an

award-winning service platform combined with the innovative thinking that the City has embraced to make Westerville a tech-nology destination for businesses,” said DRSCEOMikeMeloy.

OhioHealth Westerville Medical Cam-pus will expand its wide range of outpatient services in June 2012

when itopensa16-bedemergencyde-partment, known as the Emergency Care Center at OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus.

“The Emergency Care Center is a new addition to the OhioHealth hospitals’ emergency department system and will bestaffed24/7byboard-certifiedemer-gency medicine physicians, nurses and clinicians,” said Jean Halpin, Directorof Operations, Westerville Medical Cam-pus. “The same experienced physicians who staff the emergency departments at Grant Medical Center, Riverside Method-istHospitalandDublinMethodistHos-pital will staff the Emergency Care Cen-ter.”

Although not physically connected to a hospital as traditional emergency departments are, the medical campus addition replicates the full array of ser-vices and procedures offered by hospi-tal emergency departments. The center fills a gap on the health care continuum between urgent care and the hospital emergency department.

“It will be a wonderful asset for West-erville because it will give residents

another qualified facil-ity that’s always open and capable of handling most emergencies,” said PaulGabriel,M.D.,Medi-calDirectoroftheEmer-gency Care Center. “Our emergency-trained phy-sicians and staff have the expertise to handle anything that comes through our doors. We expect to treat 95 per-cent of patients who come to us. More serious patients needing hospi-talizationwillbestabilizedattheEmer-gency Care Center and transferred to an appropriate facility.”

Thetwo-story,48,000square-footfa-cility will feature comfortable waiting areas and private patient rooms and be equipped with the most advanced labo-ratory and radiology services available. It will accept ambulance traffic as well as walk-in patients.

Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Project GRACE celebrates a $110 millionexpansion at Westerville’s hospi-

tal, featuring a new patient tower with 60 additional inpatient beds, expanded health care services, a new hospital grand entrance facing south, expanded kitchen and dining facilities, a parking garage andmorethan200newjobs.

“To meet the health care needs of the growing populations in the communi-ties Mount Carmel St. Ann’s serves, we are committed to elevating St. Ann’s into a regional medical center with increased capacity and state-of-the-art clinical services and technologies,” says Claus von Zychlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Carmel Health System.

Major clinical service lines which have been or will be expanded at Mount Car-mel St. Ann’s include cardiovascular care (with open heart surgery), oncology/cancer care (which offers central Ohio’sonly CyberKnife technology for treating certain tumors), orthopedics, neurol-ogy/stroke care, vascular care, perina-tology/maternal-fetalmedicine(special-izedcareofawomanandfetus/baby,.especially in.complicated,.high-risk pregnancies),.women’s health/breast health and spine care.

The expansion project will enable in-tegration among cardiologists, cardio-thoracic surgeons and vascular surgeons –allworkingtogethertoprovidecompre-hensive, integrated patient care. Among cardiac patients, 30 percent also havevascular disease, and among vascular pa-tients,upto90percentalsohavecardiacdisease.

•AccreditationasaChestPainCenterwith Percutaneous Coronary Inter-vention by the international Society of Chest Pain Centers. To receive this accreditation, hospitals must demon-strate proficiency in the early assess-ment, diagnosis and treatment of pa-tients with acute coronary syndromes like heart attack as well as commu-nity outreach and collaboration with local Emergency Medical Services pro-viders.
