Hunting is permitted on State-owned lands in Westwoods and elsewhere and privately held land adjacent to GLCT property. Wear bright colors and use caution during this time. Key to Trail Markings (Blazes)Blazes in the Guilford Land Trust trails have two indicators: a color and a shape. The color is used to differentiate the many trails of the system, particularly in the Westwoods Trails System. The shape has a specific meaning:•Circles indicate main north-south trails.•Rectangles indicate main east-west trails.•Triangles indicate special purpose trails.

For example, in Westwoods there are two “pedestrian only” trails indicated by Green Triangles. Two trails are designated for horseback riding (Red Triangle and Yellow Triangle).• Squares indicate alternate trails that start and end on the same main trail. The color of the square trail matches the color of the main trail for which it is an alternate.•Cross trails (marked with an “X”) connect two main trails. They are shortcuts. The color of the “X” indicates the color of the trail it leads to. Typically, the different directions on the cross trails will have different colors.•Turns on trails are denoted in two ways. On a single trail, a turn is indicated by two blazes, one atop the other. If the top blaze is to the right, the trail turns right. If on the left, it turns left.•Intersections of several trails, can be marked with multiple shapes and colors, an arrow over a single blaze shows the direction of the turn.
