the building of our new, state-of-the-art facility right here in Decatur!

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us,

and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

The Scalpel’s EdgeBy Dr. Daniel Morris, D.O., FACOS

Dear Dr. Morris,How Do I Get Rid of Ugly Leg Veins? — Summer Without ShortsDear ‘Summer’, The treatment options for unwanted leg veins has really improved in the past ten years. New options include endovenous laser therapy, phlebectomy, sclerotherapy, and topical laser therapy. Endovenous Laser Therapy eliminates the unwanted vein using a laser fiber inserted through a skin puncture. Phlebectomy interrupts the problematic vein using a small surgical tool. Sclerotherapy involves injecting the vein with small amounts of solution to dry up the unwanted vein. A Topical laser is applied through the skin to eliminate superficial spider veins. There has been a big improvement in the “down time” incurred in getting over treatment. As a Vascular Surgeon, I can offer all of these treatments in the office with very little or no down time from work. We must first determine the pattern of veins causing the problem. There are several patterns and each pattern has specific treatment options. Physical exam of the problematic area is the first step. Next, an ultrasound is done in the office to identify the source of the problem veins. Once these steps have been taken, I can customize your treatment options. Consultation, testing, and treatment are covered under most insurance plans.

To learn more, please visit my website at www.TexasVeinDoc.com. Arrange a free initial screening done by my nurse at 866.4newyou (866-463-9968). We have offices in Decatur and Gainesville for your convenience.

Janice Millican and Levi Step Laura and Jennifer Shaffer Deb and Liz Hatter

Welcome to the first issue of our 7th year of publishing

this ‘little’ magazine for Wise County, Texas. This is a very important issue. You will notice that this issue we gave our writers the month off so that we could use the article space for our over 100 pictures of Wise County moms and their kids. It is our favorite issue of the year because of all the pictures but also because it starts another year of publishing for us. Six years ago when we started Wise Youth Today magazine we knew that we wanted to make a difference in the community and I believe that in our own small way we have done just that. May marks the month for Mothers and is also the month for Civility. Our own, Deborah King www.finaltouchschool.com, was instrumental in getting May proclaimed as National Civility

Awareness Month. In honor of this event we have placed throughout the magazine tips and information regarding civility. Let’s all take a moment this month to think about how life would be if people were not civil to each other and if the art of civility were not practiced. A thank you goes out to all the mothers throughout history who have reminded us to be kind and generous and to make those around us feel important. I want to take the time and the space to thank some other very important people.

THANK YOU …to my friend and very talented •photographer, Tammy Kelly (www.TammyKelly.com), for taking pictures again this year at the Wise County Home and Lawn Show. to the Decatur Rotary Club for •

once again putting on the best Home and Lawn Show ever! to the many families who came •out and allowed us to take their pictures for this issue. to Donnelle Cooper, who is •the true talent behind putting the magazine together. Her involvement makes the maga-zine better and certainly keeps me sane!to my husband, Scott, for •always being there for me and making me realize that ‘making a difference’ is what it is all about. to our readers who pick us up •each and every month and share us with their family and friends. We appreciate your loyalty and your participation! Without you there would be no reason for Wise Family Today Magazine.to our many advertisers who •

make Wise Family Today a reality each and every month. This past year has proven to be difficult for many of our advertising businesses in the county but they have prevailed and we thank them for sticking by us.

My last but certainly not least ‘thank you’ goes out to my own mother who through the years has been one of my greatest cheerleaders. Mom, thank you for everything. Take a moment this month to say ‘thank you’ to the special women in your life who have helped you become the person you are today. Without them where would any of us be? MOMS ROCK and CIVILITY RULES! Enjoy the issue. ■

No one in the world can take the place of your mother. Right or wrong, from her viewpoint you are always

right. She may scold you for little things, but never for the big ones.

One of the very few reasons I had any respect for my mother when I was thirteen was because she would reach into the sink with her bare hands - bare hands - and pick up that lethal gunk and drop it into the garbage. To top that, I saw her reach into the wet garbage bag and fish around in there looking for a lost teaspoon. Bare hands - a kind of mad courage. Robert Fulghum
