Percussion Camp: Got To Drum!(Middle School)July 29-August 2/Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noonBill Cahn of Nexus, adjunct Eastman faculty

memberRuth Cahn, percussion instructor in the ECMS

(Both were members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for many years.)

If you are already a percussionist and have had percussion lessons in school for at least one year, you will enjoy Got to Drum! You should be able to read snare drum music, and be eager to try playing rhythms and patterns by listening. If you can already read timpani and marimba music, that skill will certainly be well used. The program for students entering grades 6-9 focuses on hand drumming on world percussion instruments and will incorporate rhythms from many cultures. Drum ensembles, drum circles, improvisation, body per-cussion, “found instrument” ensembles and stan-dard percussion ensembles are all likely program components. The program will include basic expo-sure to the full range of orchestral/band percussion instruments: snare drum, timpani and keyboard

(the teachers with extensive experience) or intern (grad students at Eastman School of Music). Please indicate as many available times as pos-sible. Your signature is needed at the bottom of the form. Teachers will contact you to arrange a lesson time.
