Obstetrician A doctor who is responsible for the health of mum and baby during, before and after pregnancy. Lactation consultant A health professional specialised to help mothers to breastfeed. Child health nurse A nurse specialised to support families with children up to the age of 4 years with health and parenting. Dietitian A health professional who specialises in giving food and nutrition advice to support healthy lifestyles or to help with medical conditions. Gestation The time between conception and birth. This is often known as weeks of pregnancy. Trimester A time period of three months. There are three trimesters during pregnancy. Labour The process of having a baby. Colostrum The first bit of breastmilk that comes through. It is usually sticky and a white or yellow colour.
