Apprenticeships• An Apprenticeship is a real job with
training so you can earn while you learn and pick up recognised qualifications as you go. They take between one and four years to complete and cover 1,400 job roles in a wide range of industries, from things like engineering to financial advice, veterinary nursing to accountancy.

What happens next?
First Thoughts. You need to consider your options and investigate them to see which would suit you. You can apply for several options.
College: Go to the websites, look at the courses, and see when there are open days. Apprenticeships: Look at the website.
What happens next?
Thursday 3rd December. Post 16 Open evening at Caludon. Subject fair and presentation to parents. Prospectus will be available.
Preparation and Reflection: In the next couple of weeks teachers will talk to you about post 16 studies in your classes.
What happens next?
•New subjects (Psychology, Travel and Tourism, Moving Image Production) will give you information at the Open Evening and possibly in another assembly and mentor sessions over the coming weeks.
•If you want to study a subject which you don’t do now, talk to staff at the Open Evening.
What happens next?•Option form: Fill in a form [given out in tutor time on Friday 4th December] indicating your options for the Sixth Form or your chosen college course/ alternative .•You will need to look carefully at the Caludon Sixth Form entry requirements for each subject.•You will then need to ask subject staff to sign the form for AS level choices. •Forms need to be returned to tutors by Wednesday 16th DecemberALL students need to return a form, so we can provide appropriate advice and guidance for ALL

Sixth Form Applications: DuringJanuary, all year 11 students will beinterviewed by the sixth form team ifyou are interested in staying on.
Other Applications: If you areconsidering college and/or anapprenticeship, Carole Foster will initiallysee mainly small groups of studentsrequiring advice from January.
What happens next?
There will be two Sixth Form inductiondays in July, when you will be able tosample lessons and talk to the post 16team.Main enrolment takes place on GCSEresults day and the following day.

GCSE grades matter!Did you know…..
• you need D/C grades in Maths and English to do carpentry, bricklaying, plastering at college?
• You need C grades in Maths and English to do plumbing at college?
• you need C grades in Maths, English and a Science to study to be an electrician at college?
GCSE grades matter!Did you know…..
• you need at least 5 C grades, including Maths and English to do level 3 courses in the Sixth Form(A level or BTEC level 3)?
• For some A level courses you need 5 B grades and sometimes you need a B in the subject (e.g. Psychology needs several B grades + B in English and preferably Science)
GCSE grades matter!
Looking further ahead, GCSE grades can be important for university applications.
For example - medicine:
• Birmingham University requires A* grades in each of English, Mathematics and Science/s. Overall GCSE performance will also be considered
• Nottingham University requires at least six subjects at grade A including all three Sciences or the double Science award.
This year matters!
• Every college course, apprenticeship, sixth form will ask for a reference. Make sure yours will be good!
• Make the most of Year 11 and get the best results you can.
• Start planning for next year.
