What does cease-fire really mean in the Middle East ? Slide 2 In English, theres a simple answer: cease-fire:1. An order to stop firing 2. A truce Slide 3 But the Palestinians use an Islamic term for cease-fire Hudna and this word has a very, very different meaning. Hudna: temporarily reducing hostilities against an enemy, often until tactically advantagous to resume the attack. Slide 4 The historical and religious meaning Hudna was first used in 628, when the Prophet Mohammed entered into a peace-pact with the elders of Quraysh. This pact was supposed to last for 9 years, 9 months and 9 days. Less than two years later, when Mohammeds troops had gathered enough strength, they violated their oath and attacked the Quraysh, defeating their enemy and conquering the city of Mecca. Hudna - a code-word for treaty violation Slide 5 So what is a Middle Eastern cease-fire? Israelis cease, Palestinians fire. Slide 6 Now, can we depend on Palestinian terrorists to actually put down their guns and suicide bomb-belts? Yeah, Sure, Absolutely. Slide 7 About as much as you can depend on A drug addict to manage a pharmacy A pedophile to run a day care center A Ku Klux Klan member to teach racial tolerance A chocoholic to stop after just one bite Slide 8 And what do the Palestinians want? A three-month Islamic Hudna Thats not a cease-fire, thats a summer vacation! Slide 9 A three-month Hudna vacation will give the Palestinians time to: Run more of their famous summer camps to recruit and train the next generation of terrorists Smuggle in better weapons and build more bombs Carefully prepare for their next wave of human-bombs All this just in time for Slide 10 The start of Israels next school year Slide 11 And while the Palestinians pretend that this Hudna is really a truce, Israel will be expected to stop all its efforts to prevent terrorism Slide 12 Slide 13 Itll be deja-vu all over again Every time Israel has tried to make peace, Every time peace seemed just around the corner, Palestinian terrorists went on the rampage. It happened at the height of the Oslo peace process, It happened after the Camp David peace talks. And if it happens this time Who can forget that: Slide 14 Sadly, we all know what that means More buses blown up More cafes destroyed by suicide-bombers More funerals for dead Israeli children Slide 15 Slide 16 What should happen? (in a normal world, that is) Its simple. The Palestinians should end their double-talk and STOP THE TERRORISM once and for all! Slide 17 For starters, maybe they should try actually reading the road map Roadmap Phase 1: Rebuilt and refocused Palestinian Authority security apparatus begins sustained, targeted, and effective operations aimed at confronting all those engaged in terror and dismantlement of terrorist capabilities and infrastructure. This includes commencing confiscation of illegal weapons and consolidation of security authority, free of association with terror and corruption.
