What happens to your recycling...

The recycling wagon is split into two compartmentsso the paper and cardboard are always kept separate
from the glass, cans and plastic bottles.
Your collected recyclable materials are delivered
to Middleton waste transfer station.
The items are then separated into individual materials by a series of
manual and mechanical operations that use the latest technologies.
Once sorted the recyclable material is sent to the recycling factories to be made into useful products.
In 2011/2012 10,255 tonnes of paper, glass, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles and textiles were recycled and 10,363 tonnes of garden and food waste was composted.
Compost is made on site from the food and
garden waste.
Your paper/cardboard and glass/cans/plastic bottles and textiles are separately transferred to the
Lancashire waste technology parks.
