Audience feedback used b production companies.

• Positioning studies versus other films that will premiere at the same time.

• Test screenings of finished or nearly finished films; this is the most well known.

• Testing of audience response to advertising materials. • Tracking surveys of audience awareness of a film

starting six weeks before premiere. • Exit surveys questioning film goers about their

demographic makeup and effectiveness of marketing. • Title testing in an early stage. • Concept testing that would occur in development phase

of a film before it is produced.

Types of feedback used

• For our teaser trailer we put it on youtube so people could leave comments below. However this had to be monitored well as anyone can leave a comment if they have an account on youtube.

• We also showed it to members of the target audience and got feedback from them on what they thought, what they liked and how they would change it.

• For the film poster and the magazine front cover I set up a Facebook group. Here I posted pictures of the poster and front cover and people left comments under the images telling us what they thought of the products.

Feedback from rough cut of trailer

• From the video feedback for our teaser trailer we found out that:

• The trailer was too long- as it is a teaser trailer it should be about 30-60 seconds however at this point our trailer was close to two and a half minutes which was much too long and it felt that this took away from the pace of the trailer and made it drag too much.

• Desperately needed some music- as it was only a rough cut we had not looked at music yet and it was thought that good music would add a lot to the tension.

• More transitions could be used when the video is shorter to help increase the pace- as the trailer was too long at this point the transitions did not have the effect they needed and did not look sharp enough.

What we learnt and changed• We knew that the rough cut of our teaser trailer was much too long

and so it was cut down dramatically from almost 2 ½ minutes to just over a minute.

• This was much more appropriate. To do this we cut down the amount of time our stalker was on the screen and cut down other shots that were too long and made the trailer drag.

• There were also some clips that were cut completely. • We added music and sound effects to the trailer however these

changed several times until we found the final music which we thought worked the best.

• We also changed the text and added a transition when it comes on to the screen, there is now a white flash.

• We also added a few more fades to the flashing shots of the missing posters as it flowed better.

Feedback from final trailer• From the video feedback from the final cut of the Jigsaw teaser trailer we

found that,• People liked the pace of the editing as it was quick and it kept you watching.

The footage was well cut and kept you focused but didn’t give too much of the storyline away.

• The pace of the editing was good and it achieved the idea of a chase sequence and that it moves the trailer along quite quickly, this is effective as you don’t get bored with it.

• It was thought it was a good length but could perhaps be shorter still, but it is not a very important change and is still appropriate at the length it is now.

• It was thought that the music fitted well with footage selected for the trailer and the sound effects in particular worked very well especially the crashing sound as the text appears.

• Gives the idea of a quiet place being disrupted by this stalker.

• Overall it was thought that the music, editing, pace, sound effects and transitions all worked well with the trailer and the storyline and not too much of the story was given away. However if there was a change to be made it would be the length as it could be made shorter however this does not affect the trailer in a negative way.

Feedback from magazine cover

• They way in which we got feedback for the magazine front cover was to set up a facebook group page. On this I uploaded a picture of the magazine cover. Here people could comment on the cover and tell us what they liked and what they would change. This then allowed us to go back to the magazine cover and try some of the suggestions made of how to change it.

• If we felt that they worked better than the original format we kept that change however if they did not fit with the overall look of the magazine we undid the change and either stuck to the original idea or changed the idea from our target audience to come up with a comprimise that worked well.

Feedback• From the facebook page we found out that: • The conventions of magazine covers have been used well and are effective for

example the title of the main article spans the entire width of the page and is the biggest thing on there so it stands out.

• The font remains the same and is very easy to read• and the use of one main image that covers the majority of the front cover is very

conventional and works well. • The cover image is very appropriate and looks professional.• The use of the white stroke around the black text when it goes over the black part of

the picture is good as you can still read the article headlines. • And the colour scheme has been well worked out.

• One comment was there was no price on the front cover which had been forgotten.• The barcode is slightly too big and a bit too over powering, so should be smaller as it

is only there to serve a retail purpose and does not actually add to the magazine so making it smaller would be better.

• Also the title of ‘Film’ should line up with the text on the left hand side.

Feedback from Poster

• For the feedback for the film poster we used the same form of communication and used our facebook page that I set up.

• We simply loaded a picture of the poster on to the page and asked people to do the same and comment any thoughts underneath.

Feedback

• It was thought that the image fits well with the film title.

• The dark image with reformed facial features, general conventions of the genre are used well.

• Good use of fonts and effects.• Overall all the conventions work well together.• Things that would have been changed are the

skull as it does not sit well as the image is too bright so perhaps some colour correction is needed for it to sit more smoothly against the rest of the image.
