DESCRIPTION

Imagination can be quite powerful and profound. Even as an adult we sometimes play “What if?” This book was inspired by the powerful imagination of Emily Bright, a talented writer who fought a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. She uttered the title during her first chemotherapy session. It is with love and admiration we take her words and continue the “what if” game in hopes that it will spark creativity and imagination in you no matter how old you are.

I saw a bee.

This book is for Elliott Flinchbaugh and in memory of his amazing aunt, Emily Bright. It was created out of friendship, admiration and love for Emily, a talented writer and the bravest person I’ve ever known. Emily fought a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer and unfortunately lost that battle in January 2008.

“What If Bees Made Cheese?” came from the Divine Miss Em herself. In August 2005, Emily received

her first chemotherapy treatment. I, along with her mother and several friends, sat by her side in the hospital. With eyes closed and a mischievous grin on her face, she asked the question, “what if bees made cheese instead of honey?” We doubled over in laughter. It stuck with me

and later I asked Emily about it. She didn’t recall saying it, but we knew it could have easily been something she said without chemo drugs coursing through her veins.

My hope is this book will not only make you laugh, but also honor all of the women

who have ever fought ovarian cancer and the ones who will fight it in the future. Cancer doesn’t care how old you are or how many people you love or love you. Its sole purpose is robbing you

of your health. I was robbed of a wickedly funny friend who taught me how to live life more grandly than I thought possible. She taught me to laugh harder and more frequently. She taught me how to make a statement simply with my choice of earrings.

Most of all, she taught me that you can’t have too many friends and that you should genrerously love the ones you have as if they were family.

Special Thanks. A special thank you goes out to Dave Alsobrooks for designing this book.

Not only was he a close friend of Emily’s, but he also worked along side her for a number of years at an advertising agency.

He took the award-winning copy she wrote and made it come alive through unparalleled images and artwork. Thanks for doing it one more time!
