CAPTURE A SCENARIO 👇
1. How might we help Ria cope with this difficult situation when she cannot afford professional therapy?
2. How might we support Ria self-heal in a less distressing and more enjoyable manner?
3. How might we help Ria develop better coping mechanisms?
Ria is a college student who has to constantly juggle between multiple assignments and classes. Due to the lockdown she cannot hangout with her friends like before and feels depressed and lonely at home.😢 She finds it difficult to share her feelings to anyone. She keeps it to herself and suffers quietly. Therapy being expensive is unaffordable to her.

People talking about their personal mental health issues
Fears about COVID-19 and the uncertainty around the lockdown have contributed to a growing number of mental health woes. Many Indians are worried their time in isolation will lead to feeling of depression, uncertainty, worry, stress and anxiety.

If the problem can be addressed and solved it will result in better and healthy mind and being healthy emotionally can promote productivity and effectiveness in activities like work, school or caregiving. It plays an important part in the health of relationships, and will allow people to adapt to changes in their life and cope with adversity.

USER SURVEY INSIGHTS 👇
We conducted a survey of about 65 participants from varied age groups. This helped us gain insights and validation for the problem.
Around 70% people felt a sudden change in schedule and increased screen time, less interaction with people which impacted their mental health.
42% of them felt better after talking to someone whenever they felt low while around 60% choose to watch movies to cheer up. People are consuming audio and video immensely.
85% of the participants who were impacted mentally by the lockdown were around the age group of 19 to 35 years.
Talking to someone, listening to calm music and meditating were very helpful to manage emotions better. Some snips from the analytics of user

SOLUTIONS AND IDEAS 👇
Mental health is such a huge topic, it doesn’t have one particular solution to all the stigma and problem surrounding it. While brainstorming, we can up with various other ideas which were equally capable of being our final solution and didn’t move forward with them, after weighing it’s pros and cons. These are some of those ideas that we came up :
● Prompt based games - A board game with prompt based activities and introspective questions to change a person’s lifestyle which can be shared on the mobile app as well.
● Activities are planned in a way to bring about a holistic change in a person’s lifestyle were one of our favourite ideas..
● Other solutions also included having an app to select specific calming music based on his/her mental state at that moment based on answers they provided to simple yet thought provoking question.
Explorations
Some of the notes we took during our brainstorming sessions
Alternate solution ( SELF HELP)👇
● One other idea was exploring photography as an alternative to therapy. It involved a physical product ( a polaroid camera ) using which a person had to click a photo every day, not necessary that it should be special everyday.
● The photo film would contain a question on it’s back and each day , user had to attach the photo to his journal (specially designed for this), write why they took this photo and answer the question written on the film’s back.
● Each day, question would be quick and they would crafted keeping in mind the user’s best interests and mental health.

Solution
Solution
We came up with an Idea that would help people to share their sentiments ,problems and difficult times they are going through with others going through the same.
Introspect
Here, the person would get daily question prompts to share your feelings on your card which further can be shared with others or keep to themselves.
No more Loneliness
One can see others cards and answers of the daily prompts and feel that they are not alone but everyone is going through with their own life battles.
Support The most important feature of this application is Support Card, as you see someone shared their card which tells they going through any life issues, lows and may be shared their achievement. You can post them a support card ,which would pump them up with the lost motivation in their life.

Execution & Viability
The mobile application can be created on Android or iOS platform. Functionality wise, it’s fairly simple to implement this app.
The app can be released on invite only for the first set of users. This will ensure that we’ve a curated audience and curated content at the same time. This is important as mental health is a very sensitive topic. After we reach a benchmark number of users, we will open it to everyone.
Another approach would be to make it a community on subscription basis on a nominal fee. Again, this is to ensure we maintain a curated audience and content on the app. We need to ensure we keep people away who might comment/post something insensitive or hurtful towards other audience of the app.
ImpactTie and its impact
Tie allows users to understand, reflect and express their emotions
Tie helps users to share a common safe non judgemental platform to open up.
A platform where people can support each other through their journey.
