What is Anzac Cove?By: Anzacdays.com

Australian and New Zealand armies decided to land Gallipoli to take down Turkey and Capture Constantinople.

It was difficult to get into Turkey as they had their armies set at the easy access points of Turkey.

So Australian and New Zealand Armies decided to land at the Bay of kabatepe on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25th April, 1915.

Australian and New Zealand soldiers made their base at the bay for 8 months.

The Australian and New Zealand soldiers were called Anzac’s and thus the bay where they landed was known as Anzac Cove.

On 29th April,1915, General Bird wood recommended to call the bay as Anzac Cove.

Every year, Anzac day 2014 is commemorated in remembrance of the soldiers who served and died during World War 1.

Geographic details

The cove had two headlands, Ariburnu on the north and hell split on the south.

Activities at the Cove

There were two field hospitals opened at the bay for the wounded soldiers.

There were three wireless radio stations to keep them connected.

Anzac Cove was the base for receiving supplies and extra troops.

You can also send them some interesting Anzac day quotes.

There were four floating jetties constructed for easy receiving of supplies and troops.

Later in July permanent structure was constructed which was known as “Watson’s Pier”.

Anzac Cove received constant attacks of gun firing and bombs from the Turkish force, though it was a popular spot for swimming for the Anzac Soldiers.

In our times

In the year 1985, Turkish Government officially accepted the Name Anzac Cove.

A special Anzac commemorative site has been constructed near north beach in the year 2000 to commemorate the soldiers who died.

On 25th April, every year there are special Dawn Service and Anzac Day Ceremony held at the commemorative site.

People from different parts of the world, especially from Australia and New Zealand visit Commemorative site at Gallipoli to give their tribute to the soldiers who died at Gallipoli.
