What is Creative Photography?

There’s no simple answer but here’s a few thoughts…

1Creating an extraordinary image from a rather ordinary object or scene



2Taking a familiar subject in an unfamiliar way



3Creating pictures that make people look for more than couple of seconds



4Not being afraid to experiment

It’s rewarding when something new works out well



5Learn to understand and use light

Understand exposure fully



6Learn to use your camera

You don’t need an expensive DSLR to be creative



7Using lots of different styles & techniques

For example some photos look great in black and white



8Using image editing to enhance pictures

Photoshop is not cheating



9Break the normal rules for the style of photography

For example in portraits, chop off half the face



10Using shape, lines and contrast



11Making the most of opportunities

Sporting events, car rallies etc.



12A good photo is not always a good photo!

By this I mean a simple snap on a camera phone can still be great if the subject is interesting.



13Practice lots!

Ideally spend a day out with a fellow photographer with the sole purpose of getting some creative pictures. Compare ideas and photos afterwards.
