• The two words – Current and Affairs come together to give an interesting name to a subject of study. Current means recent, day to day life and affairs mean events, issues etc. Therefore current affairs are the day to day incidents and events around us.

• Current affairs revolve around happenings in different field related to

• national,• international, • economy,• sports, • science and technology, • environment.

• They also vary according to the scale of which these events occur, be it at national level, regional level or international level.

• To develop an understanding of these events, it is required to explore the different aspects, background, and history of the events in question.

• At times one major of national, international or economic event may lead to a series of incidents that may threaten to shake the balance in power. (For example, the Jasmine revolution in Tunisia which gave a cue to the uprising in Egypt and is threatening authoritarian regime in a number of North African and Middle East countries. )

What to expect in this two years?

• In this two years, active participants will get the chance to participate in model united nations conferences as well as current affairs quizzes, both of which help to improve one’s public speaking as well as increased global awareness ( yes it helps your GP too).

• In the next few slides, we will be talking about some competitions and conferences that we will be facing.

What are current affairs quizzes?

• Current affairs quizzes are quizzes that test you factual information on the global happenings within the past two years, and they range from easy to difficult, local to international and involve mostly political issues.

• Some competitions include: NUS chancellor’s challenge shield, NUS policy debate seminar

What is a MUN?

• MUN, or model united nations is a mock simulation of the real united nations conference. It is much more straightforward, flexible than the UN and gives students the first hand exposure through dedicated research and on-the-ground debate experiences.

• By the end of your two years in VJ, MUNning would help you:

• 1) Develop increased awareness of the community;• 2) More content knowledge development;• 3) Enhancement of practical skills.
