Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu,

is an infectious disease caused by RNA

viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae (the

influenza viruses), that affects birds and

mammals. The name influenza comes from

the Italian influenza, meaning "influence"

(Latin: influentia).


األنفلونزا هي أحد األمراض المعدية التي تسببها

( Orthomyxoviridaeمن عائلة RNAفيروسات ال

Influenza infects many animal species, and

transfer of viral strains between species

can occur. Birds are thought to be the main

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory

disease of pigs caused by type A influenza

viruses (H1N1) that causes regular

outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally

get swine flu, but human infections can
