The Environmental Defense Fund is one of the world’s

largest environmental organizations, with over one

million members and a staff of 500 scientists,

economists, policy experts, and other professionals all

around the world.

EDF’s Core Values:

Impact: 65% of U.S. fisheries are currently managed

using sustainable methods, helping to reverse decades

of overfishing.

Restoring: Healthy Oceans

EDF's role: introduced catch shares, a type of

management that is now widely used. Catch shares

give fishermen a stake in the overall health of a

fishery.

Reducing: Climate pollution

According to the EDF, "methane pollution getsmuch-needed scrutiny."

Impact: EPA announced plans to set limits onmethane pollution within the oil and gas

industry.

EDF's role: drew focus to the problem by initiating a

series of 16 studies to gather data. Partners include

about 100 universities, research institutions and

companies.

Protecting: Vulnerable Ecosystems

Safe Harbor preserves habitat on private lands.

Impact: 4 million acres of habitat protected

EDF's role: created and launched Safe Harbor, an

organization that gives landowners added incentives

to protect rare species while simultaneously avoiding

new government restrictions regarding land usage.

Thousands of consumer products are getting safer.

Impact: According to EDF.com, "Walmart has a new safer

chemical policy that asks suppliers to disclose chemicals in

thousands of household products. The policy also targets

priority chemicals of concern for phasing out or

substitution with safer ingredients."

Safeguarding: Human Health

EDF's role: provided scientific help to Walmart

about how to develop a leadership policy that

sets a standard for safer chemicals in the

marketplace—continuing their efforts on

utilizing corporate partnerships for positive

environmental results.
