Can you name any

characters?

After making a series of short films, including the horror-movie homage

Frankenweenie (1984), Burton directed his first feature film, Pee-Wee’s Big

Adventure, in 1985. A box-office success, the family movie centred on a man-

child (played by Paul Reubens) looking for his stolen bicycle. With the dark

comedy Beetlejuice (1988), Burton established himself as an unconventional

filmmaker. He turned to more mainstream fare with the big-budget Batman

(1989) and its sequel Batman Returns (1992). Both films were major hits.

Burton was also responsible for the concept and general design of the stop-

motion animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), which was

directed by Henry Selick.

After studying at the California Institute of the

Arts (CalArts), Tim Burton worked as an

animator at the Walt Disney Studios before

breaking out on his own. Taking inspiration

from popular culture, fairy tales, and gothic

traditions, Burton has reinvented Hollywood

genre filmmaking as an expression of a

personal vision.

Main task: Can you make yourself into a character

inspired by Tim Burton? - draw your design in

your sketchbook

Homework: To complete drawing ready for next

Watch

demonstration

carefully.

Keep questions

till the end of

demonstration.

With the block you are given separate into 2 equal

piles. Leave pile 1 to the side. With the other pile split

it into 2 equal parts. These smaller sections will be

used for the jaw and details.

Pile 1 and 2 will be used to make the head.

Pile 3 will be used to make the facial features and

details.

Watch demonstration on how to make the head.

Pile 1 = roll into a ball...then flatten slightly.

Pile 2 = make into a triangular shape.

Join shapes together as shown. Use fingers to

smoothen them together.

Insert lollipop stick carefully from the bottom of the

triangle until half the lollipop stick has been inserted.

Write your full name on the lollipop stick.

were each facial feature would be.

Watch carefully how to apply the

permanent marker.

You must not touch the parts where you

have added the permanent marker!
