What kind of clothes do models wear in Classical music magazines and what does this show us? Research

• The main theme that I have seen while researching classical magazines is that on a whole, men wear smart suits and women where elegant dresses. The main reason towards why they wear this is due to the fact they have an expectation to live up to. For example, when people go to see an orchestra play at a theatre the auidence have an expectation of the performers to wear suits and smart dresses; the main reason for this is that orchestras stereotypically have been linked with the idea of royalty and elegance over the year, and gradually this has become the expectation of these performers. As a result of this the magazines follow the same theme.

The model on the front of this particular classical music magazine is a well known artist named Gareth Malone. As you can see he is wearing a suit and bow-tie; this is a well tidy look and makes him look sophisticated, this is the looks that most classical music magazines would go for. The reason for this is that on a stereotypical level classical music had always been associated with style an sophistication and that’s why a convention of a music magazine is suits and smart wear. Malone (the model) is a young music prodigy and because he is young, the glasses that he is wearing and the bright colour of is tie shows that he's young and quirky yet sophisticated.

The lady on this front cover is wearing a plain black dress that compliments her body shape, the dress because it is black shows sophistication as black is linked with the idea of formality. Also the dress being black makes it not stand out too much, if the dress was brightly coloured and stood out too much we would take no notice of the instrument. Also bright and bold colours are linked with children and pop magazines and they represent bubbly youth, however since this magazine is classical its more relaxed and represent sophistication and the style and colour of the dress pulls this off.

This model just like the other model that I had looked at is wearing a suit and tie. And this shows sophistication and class which are the type of things that are associated with classical music magazines. Also this man is around 45 years old and the level of sophistication rises with age so as well as hum dressing smart for a classical music magazine , he is also dressed like that because of his age, the neatness of his outfit shows maturity.
