WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTO SHOOT?

THE SETTING The setting must have a lot of lighting to make the model

stand out and to improve the quality, natural lighting works really well but lamps with hooded shades work really well as you can control where the light appears on the model, this wont be needed if the photo shoot is outside, however.

Some of my shots will be outdoors, but I want to create a studio look as this will help with the design and quality of my magazine I think.

LIGHTING One light should always face the ceiling to bring out the white

background. A fill light should be included which is placed as far back as

possible so there is no shadow on the model’s face. Over head lights must not be used as this will create too much

shadow on the models face. The lighting can be combined with natural lighting so all

curtains and blinds must be open to give it a professional look.

THE MODEL

There should be an idea on how the model should look such as costumes and poses.

Hair and make-up can also play a vital role. Before taking the pictures ask the model to practice different

poses and see what works out the best.

THE SHOOT

When setting up the camera, make sure the flash is off otherwise the lighting will be too bright.

The setting on any digital camera should be okay on automatic if not the portrait option should be fine.

The camera should be focused on the model and not blurry to ensure better quality.

A tripod will help the camera to focus easier and keep still.

THE SHOOT

Take more pictures than necessary to ensure that you get the perfect shot you need and you have a better range to choose from.

Editing the photos on the computer will make the images look much more professional and can be cropped.
