Each is to fast and pray, study and seek, start and stop and start again until he or she is confident that for this conference, at this time, his or hers is the topic the Lord wishes that speaker to present regardless of personal wishes or private preferences. … Each has wept, worried, and earnestly sought the Lord’s direction to guide his or her thoughts and expression” (Elder Holland, April 2011)

What percent of early Saints practiced polygamy?

Were those marriages happy/sad?

Was it forced upon the women?

Joseph Smith and Vilate Kimball story

“The Lord’s people are authorized to practice plural marriage only when the Lord commands it. At certain times in the history of the world, the Lord has commanded His people to practice plural marriage. For example, plural marriage was practiced in Old Testament times by Abraham and Sarah and by their grandson Jacob and it was practiced for a time during the early days of the restored Church for approximately 50 years. However, God commanded His prophet Wilford Woodruff to end the practice of plural marriage in 1890. Book of Mormon Teacher Resource Manual, Jacob 3

“The plaguing sin of this generation is sexual immorality. This, the Prophet Joseph said, would be the source of more temptations, more buffetings, and more difficulties for the elders of Israel than any other.”

(Journal of Discourses, 8:55.)

“Any sexual intimacy outside of the bonds of marriage—I mean any intentional contact with the sacred, private parts of another’s body, with or without clothing—is a sin and is forbidden by God. It is also a transgression to intentionally stimulate these emotions within your own body” (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Making the Right Choices,” Ensign, Nov. 1994, 38).

Why is the law of chastity so important? What consequences have you seen immorality cause?

What’s the cure for wickedness?Jacob 2:17-21
