What Types of Material

are Available for

Your Guttering System?

Your gutters form an integral part of your home and play a big role in the look of your house.

They are seen by passers by and if not looked after can detract from your homes overall appearance.

There are many things to take into consideration when installing a guttering system and there are now many types of materials that can be

used.

It is good to take price, longevity, complementarity and overall look, all into consideration.

Here we will look at some of the different materials available and some of their pros and cons.

Stainless Steel

This material will add an almost timeless shine to the exterior lines of your home.

It is considered to almost indestructible, which is a bonus when you look at its price.

Although more expensive you reap a large part of the cost in lower maintenance, repair and replacement bills.

Cast Iron

Very heavy and expensive this is a more traditional choice for your home.

It is not prone to cracking, is wind-resistant and impact resistant.

It is whoever prone to corrosion and so needs to be regularly painted with a protective paint layer.

Aluminium

Costing a little less than cast iron and also lighter in weight, this type is also available with a variety of powder coatings.

This allows you to blend the guttering system with the exterior colour of your house, windows and doors.

Also easy to work with because of its light weight, this material won’t rust and is considered weather-proof.

The only drawback is that they can become dented by, for example, falling tree branches.

There are two types, those made from recycled aluminium, which is slightly less robust and primary aluminium, which is much stronger.

UPVC

This is a low cost material to use and so has become very popular. It is easy to install and will enjoy a long life span.

However it is important to use good quality UPVC as an inferior choice will be quicker to deteriorate and be prone to rapid discolouration.

UPVC gutters are easy to install because the material is very lightweight, making handling very easy.

On top of that there are many shop bought kits that are now available, with fitting instructions included.

The only downside of this type of material is that it can be very flimsy and likely to be damaged, either by falling branches or placing your

ladder in the wrong place.

That being said the advantages of this material far outweigh the disadvantages, hence its common use.

Whatever type of material you use there will arise a need for gutter cleaners. London has many to choose from.

There are other materials to choose from but these 4 are the most popular.

Whatever you choose shop around for the best that you can afford and invest in its upkeep to ensure a

long life.
