ANIMAL TANGRAMS

Also we had some help from Maths Department. The students learned "Shapes" and formed "Animal Tangrams." They worked in groups and drew different animals by using Tangrams. They used our Maths Lab for this activity. They also worked in art class. They drew shapes, cut them out and stuck them on pieces of paper. They then created animals again. The final step was in English class. The students brought an interesting fact about their animals that they had created in art class. And each student prepared a big fact file about his animal. They helped each other. Here are the photos of ANIMAL TANGRAMS AND FACT FILES!

Our 3rd theme was ‘The Past’ and we worked on the historical places and historical figures of Turkish history.

The first historical building and tale that we worked on was ‘The Maiden’s Tower’.

Our students learned the legend of this tower in their Social Sciences lesson and then they made their own model Maiden’s Towers.

THE PAST

First of all, we worked on a Turkish folk character: Nasrettin Hodja.

Nasrettin Hodja is considered a Turkish populist philosopher and wise man, remembered for his funny stories and anecdotes. He is a well known character both by young and old people in Turkey.

NASRETTIN HODJA

Page 61: What we have done so far symposium, romania, october 2013

As a wise man, Nasrettin Hodja always helped people to find the right path and stay away from evil. In doing this, he mainly used jokes. In many of these jokes he used ‘food’ items as symbols.

Our students searched for Nasrettin Hodja jokes related to ‘food’. And they shared these stories with their friends both in Turkish and English.

Tarifi Bende

Nasreddin hoca bir gün yolda yürürken canı pirzola çekmiş,

Kasaba gidip pirzola almış ama nasıl yapılacağını

bilmiyormuş.

-Eee ben bunu nasıl pişirecem daha yapmasını bilmiyom

demiş.

Adam tarifi yazıp vermiş hocaya. Hoca yolda giderken bir karga

pirzolayı elinden kapıp havaya yükselmiş.

Nasreddin hoca arkasında bağırmış:

-Karga bak bak tarifi bende. Demiş
