What Would Jesus Undo? Hollow Worship – Heart-felt worship Hollow worship is just going through the motions or giving lip service. Mark 7:1-7 - The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.) 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” 6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'”

The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart. If your heart is far from God, it must mean one of two things: 1) You don’t understand who God is. What you believe about God is the most important thing about you. The best worshippers…are the people who know the character of God because they have read about Him, gotten to know Him, and experienced Him in their lives. – Andrew Wilson Andrew Wilson – Incomparable: Explorations of the Character of God Isaiah 40:12 - Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand? Revelation 1:17 - When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.

When we get to heaven, we will never question why we have to worship God so much – we’re going to want to give Him all the praise He truly deserves. While we might be able to fool others with our hollow worship from the outside, we will never fool God about what’s on the inside. Psalm 8:1, 3-4 - Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens…When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? 2) You don’t understand how much He loves you. John 3:16-17 - For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Max Lucado - “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. He is crazy about you! ” ― Max Lucado When you understand who God is and how much He loves you, you will be able to worship anytime and anywhere and in any situation. Acts 16:25 - About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. Psalm 42:5 - Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. What style of worship does God desire? Authentic – heart-felt! Zephaniah 3:17 – The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. While worship is more than a song it is never going to be less than a song. Revelation 4:8b - Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”
