ABOUT OUR CLASSROOM ROUTINES The importance of self-organisation.

Homework – Homework books due in on Wednesdays.- Writing tasks due in on Fridays.- 15 spellings given out each Monday and tested the next Monday.- Reading comprehension tasks weekly and due on different days for different groups.- Homework planners.- A quiet space to do homework.- Spare copies always available.- Revision books in the Spring Term.

P.E. on Wednesdays and Swimming on Thursdays.

Home reading books and parents’ booklets.

Medical information.

Hometime arrangements.

Y6 responsibilities.

ABOUT KAGAN Structures for co-operative learning.

Children work together in pairs, groups of four or as a whole class.

Children change Kagan groups during the year.

Children are encouraged to be positive towards each other and to praise each other.

ABOUT SECONDARY SCHOOL APPLICATIONS All applications must be made online.

School tours and open evenings available.

Applications MUST be made by October 31st.

Offers of places are made on March 1st and have to be accepted by March 15th.

Secondary school staff visit Y6 in the summer term. Transition activities.

Y6 children go to transition days at secondary schools during July.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL SATS TESTS Tests happen during one week in May.

Preparation activities.

1 Reading comprehension test 1 Grammar and Punctuation paper plus a Spelling test 2 Maths tests plus a Mental Maths test

This is the first year of the new test format. This is the first year of the new “levels”.

After the tests are over we still have School Journey, the Year 6 leavers’ production and secondary school transition to look forward to!
