PRESCHOOL FOOD GATHERING ACTIVITY WHAT YOU NEED: Floor tape, two buckets/bins, paper in two different colors WHAT YOU DO: Create a “road” on the floor of your activity area with the tape. Crumple up the sheets of paper and put in one of the buckets. Place the bucket of “food” (crumpled paper) at one end of the tape “road” you created. Place the empty bucket at the other end of the tape road. Have your child stand in a line near the empty bucket. Have them walk down the road to collect two pieces of food, calling out one of the colors of the paper. Then they will bring the food back and put it in the empty bucket. Repeat with each person, however many times you want. WHAT YOU SAY: “Do you see this empty bucket? I have a plan to fill it! I want you to walk down the road to find the food at the end.” Can you go get two pieces of [color] ‘food’ and bring it back to this bucket? You followed the plan! Thanks for gathering all this food. In our Bible story today, lots of people have to follow a road to get food because they are hungry. I can’t wait for you to find out what happened.” BIBLE LESSON WHAT YOU SAY: “We’ve been learning all month long about God’s plan for Joseph, and today, we get to hear the last part of the story. And trust me, it’s AWESOME. Let’s watch!” SHOW THE VIDEO WHAT YOU DO: Show the teaching video now. VIDEO LINK: https://vimeo.com/461830915

FOOD GATHERING ACTIVITY WHAT YOU NEED: Floor tape, two buckets/bins, paper in two different colors

WHAT YOU DO: Create a “road” on the floor of your activity area with the tape. WRAPPING UP THE STORY WHAT YOU SAY: “In the story Joseph forgave his brothers and gave them food. He even gave them a hug and was happy to see them. It was the best ending to the story, because Joseph followed God’s plan. I love how Joseph followed God’s plan. I want to follow God’s plan, and you can, too! God’s plan is definitely the BEST plan. Tell me, who has a plan for you? God has a plan for me! That’s the truth! Just like God had an awesome plan for Joseph, He has a plan for you! And God has a plan for me. Let’s pray and thank God for his plan for us.” PRAYER WHAT YOU SAY: “Heavenly Father, we LOVE You. Thank You for giving us the Bible so we can read about Your plans for people like Joseph. We know You have a plan for us, too. Help us follow You because Your plan is best. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”

MEMORY VERSE WITH MOTIONS WHAT YOU SAY: “Let’s go over our memory verse again! Watch me! For I know (point to head) the plans I have for you,’ (march) says (hands to mouth like yelling) the Lord, (Point up) Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT). (Open your hands like a book).” “Now let’s do it together! Are you ready? “For I know (point to head) the plans I have for you,’ (march) says (hands to mouth like yelling) the Lord, (Point up) Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT). (Open your hands like a book).” Our Memory Verse tells us that God has a plan for me! Who has a plan for you? God has a plan for me!”

JOURNAL AND PRAYER WHAT YOU SAY: “My favorite part of today’s story is when Joseph’s brothers go to Egypt to find food, and they found something even better—their brother, Joseph! God used Joseph to save A LOT of people from being hungry, including his own family. God’s plan really is ALWAYS best! Okay, it’s time to write in our journal and pray. It had to be hard for Joseph to forgive his brothers after all the mean things they did to him. But Joseph did it! Joseph forgave his brothers, gave them a big hug, and gave them plenty of food. Joseph trusted that God’s plan is always best. Today, we’ll make a list of things we know God wants us to do. Sometimes, they will be hard to do, but we do them anyway because we know God’s plan is always best. Tell me one thing God wants us to do, and I’ll write down what you say in our prayer journal. This is awesome! We can use this list when we talk to God. Let’s pray!” Prayer WHAT YOU SAY: “Dear God, thank You for (child’s name). We know it won’t always be easy to (read the list you made), but we want to (read the list again). Please help us, because we know Your plan is always best. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

MATCHING SCOOPS WHAT YOU NEED: Cones and Scoops Activity Pages (see below), Scissors, Glue/Tape, Crayons/Markers WHAT YOU DO: Encourage your child to match the scoops’ stories to the cones’ stories as you review. Talk about God’s plan for Joseph. WHAT YOU SAY: “Now let’s build some ice cream cones together. Look, there are four ice cream cones on your paper. Each of the cones has a picture on them. What do you see on the first cone? It’s Joseph and his colorful coat! That’s the first thing we learned about Joseph. What do you see on the second cone? This cone has Joseph in Jail. Even though he didn’t do anything wrong, he followed God’s plan and helped everyone while he was there. What about the third cone? It shows Joseph saving up the grain. And the last cone? It has Joseph happy with his eleven brothers. This is when Joseph forgave his brothers and shared food with them. But these ice cream cones are missing something. What’s missing? The ice cream! Look at the ice cream scoops! They have pictures on them, too. Their pictures are the same as the pictures on the cones. Glue the ice cream scoop on top of the cone that matches. Joseph always trusted in God’s plan. No matter how hard it was, Joseph knew that God loved him, that God was always with him, and that he could trust God’s plan. We know that God loves us, He is always with us, and He has a plan for us, too. God’s plan is the best plan. Who has a plan for you? God has a plan for me!”
