Basic Set Master Set Collector’s Bundle

The Basic Set is anything but basic, containing the complete series rulebook and all of the concepts of the game except Henchmen and multi-age terrain. So, for enjoying the full sweep of game, this is all you need...

(For original DoA I owners, the Basic Set content is similar to the content of DoA I Sets 1 and 2.)

...but there’s a difference between need and want, and you will want the nine-pound mountain of content contained in the Master Set. The Master Set is an extension of the Basic Set, so you will need the Basic Set as well.

(See the DoA I-II Content Comparison PDF for the content totals between DoA I and II.)

To ensure perfection in our production, we conducted a test manufacturing run of four unique map platters and six map keys. The production proved perfect, and the resulting supply of bundles will be made available to stores that want to emphasize Duel of Ages II and to those who purchase the full series through the website or Worldspanner Amazon.

NOTE: The guaranteed cut alignment on the punch boards in the game is 3mm. This is fine for functionality, but if you are seriously averse to aesthetic misalignment, you may not be pleased. Check with your OCD before purchasing.

The Map: Platters and Keys

Fashioned of 2mm card stock, the flat map platters and keys interlock with precision – no gaps.

The die cut precision is within 3mm and rarely above 2mm. This makes for precise map platters. The keys are printed on both sides, so if you are a connoisseur of perfection, you have twice the cut to chose between.

The platters appear similar to DoA I, but have altered arrangements that create a whole new dynamic in game play. Also, gone are the quiet parking lots of Modern platters, replaced by bomb craters and new maps such as St Lo. Tunnels have disappeared in place of above-ground Caverns. The Collectors Bundle contains four new platters: Oracle, Boggy Hollow, Grand Tunnel and Crags.

The back of the map platters are decorated handsomely with a representative character. What’s The Glade without Jade?

The Basic Set contains the entire set of Adventure keys, and two sets of Dome keys for larger maps.

The Collectors Bundle contains an extra set of Team Base and Lith keys so that your game set can readily accommodate two separate games at the same time.

The Cards

Your characters can now find themselves in twice as many unusual situations, with 40 Guardians per age.

Made of the highest quality “Spielkartenkarton” design, DoA II cards are lean, tough and vibrant.

DoA II is a highly flexible game system allowing for shorter and longer games, customized missions, and even multiple ways to play. For example, players can choose to use either dice or the Challenge decks to handle results.

Henchmen are now individuals in their own right.

Characters can now emphasize their goals with Treasure split into three decks – the weapon-heavy Common deck, the Secret deck containing less weapons but powerful hidden tasks, and the Elite deck for those who absolutely must have the best.

The large-format character cards contain streamlined ratings (with one new rating, Intellect). Each gains added life and color from background information, including a defining mini-story on the back of the card.

Game Tiles and Markers

DoA II contains many high-quality tiles and markers, including four Team sets, Health markers, Lith Tribute, Experience, and Rating level up indicators. Here we take a look at two key tile sets: personal tiles and Encounters.

Character, henchmen, hunter, sentinel, and monument tiles have two sides, framed in the color of their team (black and white) to easily identify friend from foe. If a character switches sides, simply flip the tile over.

Encounters are diverse groups that your character can meet – not to fight, but to impress. Do the Lumberjacks admire your strength, or laugh at your weakness? Do the Wood Elves find your bowmanship admirable, the Geeks respect your brain, and the Film Star consider you “in?”

Encounters are a fast adventure method that allow short games of an hour. DoA II provides two sets of tiles, in case one becomes worn out.

Rulebook

DoA II contains only one rulebook, in the Basic Set. This rulebook teaches the game in stages – learn four pages and play.

The Duel of Ages website also contains the “Rules Compendium”, an electronic rulebook formatted for better rules referencing, an expanded Missions List, and bonus extras like the Alliance key.
